Grace is worried about the similarities between these new killings and those of a cannibalistic-vampire-wannabe she’s come across in her previous job. Also seeming to return from her past is Ian McHenry, a FBI agent whom she has worked with, been romanced by and is still devastatingly attracted to. Still plagued by scorching hot dreams of sex—and an enticing tingle at her neck—she isn’t sure she wants to work with him again and have her heart broken for a second time.

Ian craves to taste Grace again – the most delicious blood he’s ever sampled. The secret of being a vampire weighs on him, but he simply can’t resist Grace. Ian struggles not only to keep his real identity under wraps, but also to continue his four hundred year dedication to protecting humans against vampires who would harm them. As they look for this killer, Ian knows the truth Grace can’t or won’t see – it’s a vampire, one he knows personally — not some lame human who is deluded. Keeping that knowledge from Grace and his co-workers gets harder with every dream, touch and kiss he shares with Grace. The chemistry between Grace and Ian is really explosive. This book is a wonderful balance between hot romance and an intriguing paranormal/mystery style plot. The characters are very well drawn and their desire for each other is believable, I found myself really getting sucked into the story and enjoying myself thoroughly. There is plenty of conflict between them and they have personal demons to battle. Both Grace and Ian struggle with their shared past, the undeniability of their attraction and Ian’s secrets. I really enjoyed this and would strongly recommend it to paranormal and mystery readers alike.

This was a book that I enjoyed reading. While living and working as a detective in Philadelphia, Grace and Ian worked on a serial killer case together. That was a case where the killer was delusional and thought himself to be a vampire. They became involved and had sex, after which Ian left and broke Grace's heart. I bought this book so my review is going to be as objective as you can get.
Surprisingly this was a very decent vampire book, and I've read heaps of them. Probably nothing novel to the fans of the genre but the all the characters were convincing (well, maybe except the villain but they do tend to be one-dimensional maniacs) and the plot keeps you in suspence until the very end. I have read quite a few vampire books, I love the paranormal romance genre, I just do so of course when I saw this book I knew I needed to read it.

I will say, even though I have read quite a few books about vamps, this one is completely original. From the characters to the situation to the views about vamps, this is one you don't want to miss out on.

The Hunter's Angel was different from a lot of vampire novels out there. The main characters consisted of a Ian, a Vampire FBI agent, who was also a vampire hunter, and Grace, a human police chief who were teamed together to track down a serial killer. This was an interesting twist to the paranormal vampire romance. duBois created great characters that keep you wanting more. The storyline of a Vampire FBI agent and Chief of Police working together is original and intriguing. I did feel that I was missing something throughout the book but overall thought is was good. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and more from Cera duBois.

Acabei de ler “A Hunter’s Angel” a 20 de junho de 2012. Dou-lhe quatro estrelas.
Este é um romance paranormal, em que um vampiro renega a sua natureza e caça os da sua própria espécie. Gostei do facto de ele ser um caçador, pois dá uma certa ironia à história.
A narrativa quase que é à media rés, na medida em que, quando tem início, as personagens já se conheciam e já se tinham apaixonado e separado antes. Assim sendo, não temos aquela fase em que se conhecem e os sentimentos começam a despertar. Quando os encontramos, os sentimentos apenas vêm à superfície após algum tempo de recalcamento. Acho que a autora soube transmitir bem a intensidade do que unia as personagens .
Quanto ao que menos gostei tem a ver com a credibilidade da cena em que Ian confessa a Grace que é um vampiro. Num segundo ela julga que está ficar maluca e, no outro, já acredita? Foi uma mudança de opinião muito repentina. Também achei demasiado conveniente a atração de Brad por Grace.
Para terminar, gostei do final pois ficamos a conhecer o desfecho da narrativa e não precisamos de esperar por um próximo volume.

I finished reading "The Hunter's Angel" on June 20, 2012. I rate it four stars.
This is a paranormal romance, in which a vampire denies his nature and hunts the ones of his own species. I liked the fact that he's a hunter; it gives a certain irony to the story.
The narrative is almost in-media-res; when it begins, the characters already know and love each other, and they separated before. Therefore, we don’t not have that phase in which they get to know each other and feelings begin to awaken. When we meet them, the feelings just come to surface after some time of repression. I think the author knew how to transmit the intensity of what united the characters.
As for what I liked least, it has to do with the credibility of the scene where Ian confesses to Grace that he’s a vampire. In one second she thinks she’s going mad and, on the other, she already believes him? It was a very sudden change of opinion. I also found it too convenient the attraction of Brad for Grace.
Finally, I liked the end, because we get to know the outcome of the narrative and don’t need to wait for the next volume.

I spent a good chunk of time thinking this book was the second in a series because every single thing was based off events that happened prior to the book starting. Because of this there are a ton of flashbacks throughout the book that I think would have been better justified as a first book in a series.

Grace has come back home to a new job and just after she gets settled in the bodies start piling up at her doorstep. Calling in the FBI seems like a good idea until her ex Ian shows up with his team to bring down a serial killer whose M.O is strikingly familiar to the last case they worked together. Grace spends a good chunk of the book telling herself she doesn’t have feelings for Ian even though it’s totally obvious that she does. Coupled with all the insanely long flashbacks and Grace reliving her experiences with Ian the book dragged. I wanted more threat from the killer. I wanted more action. I wanted more story line in the present instead of constantly living in the past and learning things second hand.

I also had issues with Grace’s realization that Ian is a vampire and the following fallout with her best friend who is also in love with her. It was a weird love triangle that got even weirder when Ian’s partner falls in love with Grace too. Three guys vying for her attention was just a bit much. She doesn’t seem to distraught to find out Ian is a vampire and within a chapter has decided it’s not a deal breaker. With all this going on you’d think she might be a bit stressed. She keeps insisting she fine because she’s a cop and that’s what they do. I didn’t buy it. She’s human. There is simply no way she could hold her own against a vampire, which she finds out later, and to think so made her seem narrow minded.

Had all the flashbacks been taken out and this book made the second in the series instead of the first I think it would have held it’s ground much better. The core story of the serial killer was interesting especially since the killer is related to Ian and it’s personal. I wanted more of that. What action there was, worked well and was wrote very solidly. The relationship with Ian and Grace (when alone) was something I could get behind had there not been all the other drama going on. It would have been nice to see their budding romance instead of simply hearing about it and being thrown back into it.

A Hunter’s Angel suffered from to much information. The way in which the book was wrote flowed well and the descriptions were good. I just wanted a bit less flashback and more present story line. I would try this author again.

This is a book that kept me interested to the very end. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me wondering and plenty of romance and sex to keep me entertained. In this new world of whose vampire does what, I'm not sure about some of the qualities she gives to them. That said, I would read another book by her in a minute.
