Cixous did some excellent work in poststructural feminism. Some of her ideas, especially le ecriture feminine, have been subject to much-needed criticism. My main problem with Cixous is not her inaccessibility, but her pretentiousness. Her work is way too Eurocentric and essentialist, but also intelligent and sometimes cathartic.

I bought this so I could re-read "The Laugh of the Medusa" which is one of the most challenging and perplexing essays on either writing or feminism I've ever encountered. But I'm excited to explore more of Hélène Cixous, and this seems to be an excellent starting point. Much of her literature is hard to find in translation, and her essays have sometimes proved to be even more difficult to track down. I'm glad that someone had the bright idea to collect some of her works sooner rather...more
