I read this book when I was a little girl and I fell in love with it. The message of the novel is powerful. I could not part with the story of Joe Farrington and his inner quest for bravery ever since.

Summer Soldiers, by Susan Hart Lindquist is a great book taking place in the time of WWI. After his father goes to fight in the war, Joe and his the rest of his family have to take care of the house and farm. Joe always likes to mess around with his friends and cause trouble. But, when Joe hears the sound of a boat on the shore, he has to wake the town to go see what happened.

An interesting story about WWI. It reminded me a little of Foyle's War in that it tells the story of the people who stayed behind when others went to war.
