Vicky Angel is about a girl named Jade who loses her best friend Vicky in a car crash. It deals with the theme of bereavement, grief and guilt.

Jade's friend Vicky is an outgoing, spontaneous and fun-loving girl whilst Jade is very much the opposite and more like Vicky's sidekick. They have an argument which leads to Jade dying in a car crash. From then Vicky's ghost frequently visits Jade at school where she will not allow Jade to move on and make new friends. It is only when Jade visi More...

#86 So I've never done well with any sort of ghost story where there's a question about whether or not the ghost is real. (The movie "The Orphanage" is a great example.) Once again, I appreciate Wilson as an author--she's just so good at sliding in subtle lines that you can make as much or as little of them as you like. (The father was the most frequent target in this story.) However, I couldn't decide if Jade was crazy or if Vicky was real and it bothered me constantly. Some read More...

"http://nwhyte.livejournal.com/1221260.html[return][return]Vicky Angel is a well-told story about grief. Jade's best friend Vicky is fatally injured in a car accident in the first chapter. Jade gradually and somewhat painfully moves away from seeing the world through Vicky's eyes, and working out how to relate to her own parent and her surviving schoolmates without her, despite her continued presence in ghostly form. In this story it is the dead Vicky, rather than Jade the narrator, who we More...

Generally, I might say this book is sad because it involves a girl dying, but then after she turns into a ghost, she can be as silly as she wants, floating around, sticking out her tongue without anyone seeing, it gets kind of funny.....? Oh haha..... Well, in this book, there are several types of conflicts, like Person-Society, and Person- Self. An example of Person-Society is when Jade receives a letter, asking her to go to trial, because she was a 'witness' at the scene of Vicky's death. Jade More...

Vicky dan Jade bertetangga. Sejak kelas satu SD, keduanya satu sekolah dan bersahabat meskipun memiliki sifat yang berbeda. Vicky pengatur dan banyak maunya, sedangkan Jade pemalu dan pengekor. Jade sering mengikuti kemauan Vicky, bahkan mengerjakan PRnya!

Suatu hari sepulang dari sekolah. Keduanya berdebat tentang kegiatan ekstrakulikuler yang hendak mereka ikuti di SMP. Vicky ingin mengikuti lari gembira, sedangkan Jade berminat pada teater.

Saat berdebat, Vicky berlari More...

My sister persuaded me into reading this childrens book when I was out of books on the Montrel-Toronto train. The book is about Jade who's best friend Vicky is killed in a car accident, and hoew she copes with this, or doesn't cope. Basically like that.

Well, it was a quick read, but I think I was a little too old for the book. Just too obvious. Like childrens books often are, and ougth to bee too.

This book was really sweet and I remember really noticing the changes in the main character and her becoming brave enough to voice her opinions. I think they learnt a lot off of each other, I remember being really saddened though that it was too late for Vicky to practice what she had learnt.

What is the point to write something totally similar to another book by the same author - Double Act. Despite the fact the author tried to choose another characters and to put them into another situation, for me this one was 100% similar to the one mentioned before.

I'm clearly not the target audience of this book but it's on the Big Read Top 100 books so I am obliged to read it.

It deals quite imaginatively with the idea of death in a way that children can understand. It's a worthwhile thing for Wilson to do and the message of the book didn't feel patronising.

Superior children's modern fiction.

Not the best JW, sort of confusing. Was Jade insane or was Vicky real? Also, her mom doesn't like her dad and then she us all happy?

Overall good book. Sad tho...

It's kinda weird, tough, having someone who has died to approach her. And do everything she wants...
But it's not bad. It's still funny.. and touching T^T. Like it ^^

it shows a lot of passion and it has a inside view of what a real girl would do after her friend dies i am not saying it is a bad book in fact it is great.

This book was really quite good. It's not a great classic children's book, but it was quite involving and expressed really well the guilt involved in grief. Really well done.

I really loved this book! It had a mixture of humour and also sadness. Vicky was always the one to look at things from a humourous perspective and I found this book entertaining because of it. A great read! :D

A short, yet very sad book. Explores the loss of close friends and the difficulties. Some different of Miss Wilson, but definitely one of her best.

This book is scary - in the sense that you feel this girl will never recover from her best friend's death - but also rich and compelling.

I honestly loved this book.

Jaqueline Wilson creates and fashions a world of Jade, Vicky's best friend. I never once thought of Jade as crazy as many would; rather I felt that her actions, thoughts and emotions were normal and logical and as such was delighted whence I figured out the truth of what was happening. I adore it when you can feel that person reaching out to you in first person. The mark of a truly realistic author is when it's as if the narrator is there, whispering the wo More...
