I read this book a few weeks ago when I had grown enormously tired of 'literary' fiction and craved something sleazy, cheap and to-the-point. The sort of book I'd be almost afraid to be spotted reading in public.

One of my gripes with quite a bit of literary fiction is it seems to lack a plot. I find it hard to stay interested in rambling self-reflective tales about middle-class relationships. I like action, suspense, a healthy dose of crime is good too. For some reason I'd imagined that genre f...more

American Star is a true love story, and quite different for a Jackie Collins novel. In all of her novel's the characters, male and female are all very independent and always lead their own lives. Her stereotypical genres are romantic and action and they also have a lot of passion and sex with in them... However American Star is different to the others. It still has the passion and lust, but it also produces moments that could make any girl go weak at the knees.

Nick, the hero, and Lauren, the he...more

Having sold more than 400 million copies of her novels, Jackie Collins needs no approval from me, but for what it's worth I think she is a really awful writer. Nevertheless, I did manage to finish this and I'll concede there is a lot of comfort in indulging in the fantasy lives of rich and famous people, hence the 3 stars for mindless entertainment. Having said that, this book could have been vastly improved by an editor. Some of the sentences are so bad you'd swear they were ghost-written by a...more

This book was an 'I-just-can't-put-it-down" kind of a read, a first in a long time for me! The story is gritty, evenly paced, and transitions nicely between the characters while neatly tying up most of the loose ends between the stories. The characters are strong and easily imaginable. Collins writing style is fluid and enchanting. I really loved this book, would recommend it to anyone. I placed it on my drama shelf, but it's so much more than a drama... It has some of everything: adventure, rom...more

The book is broken down into 4 sections. It starts with Nick and Lauren and them growing up in high school and their meeting. They fall in love, but due to circumstances are torn apart and lives take different directions. The book follows each other as they build their career Nick as an actor and Lauren as a party planner and model. They can't forget about each other and their first love.

Since the main characters come from humble beginnings and I guess to emphasis that parts of the book seem ki...more

This book is a typical Jackie Collins book.....tragedy.....romance....amazing lifestyles....and lots of wild sex! I enjoyed the story and the way it was set up into 4 different parts. The characters are fun to get to know and the storylines are very entertaining........I was disappointed with the ending because it felt like Jackie was tired of writing the story and just wanted it to end so she just threw a stupid ending out there and left it at that.....otherwise it was a fun....easy read.

Cute Love story- Yes!
At some point this novel made me cry – like when Lauren finds out about her father’s affair, when a man tries to rape her be for the tornado – I really don’t know why men take advantages when women are helpless with something!

More than Nick Angel’s part I really loved & enjoyed reading Lauren’s part- an innocent girl who’s learning fast about the ways of the world, money & men.

This book was amazing and I absolutely loved it. However, it frustrated me how long it took for the two to get together. The ending kind of disappointed me. Cyndra was too much a part of the story I believe. The author did an amazing job keeping everything straight. She even mentioned Joey after several chapters (years, in the book's time) of him being gone. Jackie Collins tied up all the loose ends and made the book real to me.

AWESOME!

My neighbor lent this one to me. We'll see where it goes.

I am about 11 chapters in and this book has had sooooo many sexual references and scenes its crazy!!! Maybe I'm just so used to YA books now and those are all so vague with sex stuff. I'm in a grown up land now... lol~

This book was okay. It took forever to read it and then the ending wasn't even that great. I mean yes they ended up together but WTF Nick's little girl died.... I dunno. There was too much ridiculousness throughout the middle...more

This book is so good! I am hooked on Jackie Collins after reading Poor Little Bitch Girl. I am now going back to read all of her other books. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that it was not a life changing read. With that said I read the entire book in 2 days. I couldn't put it down!!

Jackie Collins has got to be the best author out there. I read this book and it was so filled with suspense. I've always loved her work and I just discovered her about 4 years ago. Normally I feel like she has a lot of characters in her book, and although there were quite a few in this one, they all had a story to tell. I was on the edge of my seat just to see what happened next. This is a must read!!

There were so many twists and I do admit that I was getting frustrated by how many obstacles but because of that I couldn't put it down. This was a terrific book and I wish I could read it again and again.

With guilt, I remember this book as one of the romantic novels that I have immensely enjoyed. Though heavily flawed and hardly virtuous, the lovers in this book come to grow on you and win you over. Highly recommended for those who envision the delusional romanticism in star crossed love affairs.

WHAT A WASTE!!! the 685 pages of teh novel were based on splitting of lauren and nick. and only a single paragraph of few lines, when the got together... big disappointment. High school lovers split, and make with every other person the meet in their lives, nothing stops them, but only when it comes to them getting together, they just cant do it, their conscience comes to live. And i wonder, what good deed, Did nick do in his life time to get soo LUCKY!!
I expected a lot more, lot more from this...more

This is my guilty pleasure read. It's complete trash, but it is a classic bad boy falls in love with the good girl story, which is very addicting. It also has very sexual content!

It was quite a good book, but quite long in that so many different things happened. I liked how it jumped time periods to stop the book getting boring and repetitive. Also, a little X rated which might not be your thing. . .Loved the book anyway and would definitely recommend it to a friend!!

This book was definitely an easy read. It ended in a very predictable way, I feel like it had a lot more potential than what was actually there. Still a decent pool read.

One of my favourite Jackie Collins novels and one of my favourite books of all time actually. It has been so long since I read it and I keep meaning to reread it so I can review it properly. I remember loving the characters of Nick and Lauren and really rooting for them to be reunited. I remember this being one of the more 'shocking' Jackie novels and negative reviews often complain about the sex (hello, this is Jackie...) and the bad language (how terrible...) but this is easily one of Jackie's...more
