During the Autumn of 1857, in a remote region of what is now Southern Utah, acts of great treachery were committed against innocent people. The loss of life was staggering and unprecedented in American history. Evidence shows the responsible parties to be from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including the Prophet Brigham Young. This story strives to honor ...more

I found the book lacking from a historical perspective. Capurro's redeeming factor is that he's a descendant of one of the massacre participants (Klingensmith) and thus presents an "insider's view" for those virtually unfamiliar with the events and history of the massacre. The book would certainly be more appealing if conversational sources were actually cited, particularly at crucial moments in the text. Beyond that, the author stretches the truth in some cases and understates the tru...more

Local Reno author, great guy, very well researched. The story of the mountain Meadows massacre, happened in western utah in 1857 - in 9/11 - a group of settlers were slaughtered by the Mormon Militia. A personal story for him as his great great grandfather was one of the Mormon leaders. very cool to that he wrote this book, with the support of his family, seems like it was his life's mission. The writing is decent. Important story, especially for those interested in history of the West.

One of the most enjoyable and informative evenings I've spent was the time my wife and I sat down over a cup of coffee with the author and discussed this book. His research is spot-on and Wayne brings a personal touch to his account of the Mountain Meadows Massacre in that one of his ancestors was a key participant in the tragedy.

Great informative read for anyone interested in the Mountain Meadow Massacre by a descendent of the real Bishop of Cedar City. Wish I read it before I wrote my book!

I wrote this book. It is about the Mountain Meadows Massacre which occurred one hundred fifty years ago on September 11, 1857. My great great grandfather was Philip Klingensmith, the Mormon Bishop of Cedar City, Utah and a participant in the massacre. When I was thirteen years old my grandmother, Philip's grand-daughter, told me the details of this day that "disgraced humanity". I'll never forget how difficult it was for her to tell. Her loving grandfather had participated in "the...more

I've had the pleasure of meeting and knowing this Author and this story is a must-know due to it's historical facts. Although it was sad and emotional for me to read it is well written and I couldn't put it down. I thoroughly enjoyed (from an educational standpoint) learning about this historical tradegy. I applaud Wayne for taking the energy mentally & emotionally for sharing it!
