An antique book found in present day London leads P.I. Kate Morgan into the life of Christopher "Kip" Marlowe, playwright and spy for Queen Elizabeth I. Morgan believes the book is a collection of coded intelligence documents from the Elizabethan era. In it, she hopes to discover the name of Marlowe's killer - and the volatile secret that someone is willing to kill for today.

I'm a sucker for historical mysteries that have a present-day element and this one didn't disappoint. "As The Intelligencer's interlocking narratives race toward a stunning collision, and Kate closes in on the truth behind Marlowe's sudden death, it becomes clear that she may have sealed a similar fate for herself. Propelling us from the shadows of the sixteenth-century underworld to the glitter of Queen Elizabeth's court, from the dark corridors of a clandestine American op-center to the ...more

Apologies to FLO for inflicting this book upon you. It's not horrible but it's made for tv movie book, like a watered down version of the Da Vinci Code, which was not a good book in my opinion. Like Da Vinci Code, the ideas are interesting, but very very poorly written. I was disappointed because it seemed like it could have been a really fun book. I really wanted it to be good, willed myself to think it was ok. Lent it to poor Flo who was also forced to read it! Sorry Flo, I inflicted this book...more

I loved this book! I was hooked after the first few pages. Slipping through time from here back to Queen Elizabeth's London is super fun - all while unravelling a mystery! It's a good time, this book and I recommend this to every one who loves intrigue and mystery! It's a fun summer read - smells like DaVinci Code, but without the heart... definately a beachy sunbathy read or a rainy day read!

This is an interesting interweaving of the mystery surrounding Christopher Marlowe's death in Deptford and a modern spy-mystery thriller. The characters were fun, and the two plots went together well. I disagree with some of Silbert's interpretations of a few historical characters, but hey, it's fiction.

This is Leslie's first ever novel and what a knockout. This is for everyone who loves a great mystery and Shakespeare/Marlowe. She does a fantastic job of taking the reader back and forth in between the two different time periods. This one had me from start to finish.

This is a pulp type novel that flashes back and forth between present day and the time of Christopher Marlowe. It is nothing special and I had low expectations, but I thought it was a fun read. A little suspense, a little mystery, and not too much substance.

The female protagonist suffers from a severe case of "The Author - Only Awesomer!", and frequent exposition dumps take time away from the character development that's needed to make the plot at all sensible. Fast-paced, but the poor writing bugs.

Very good book. i was pleasantly surprised. I like the form of storytelling the author used. Part of the story was historical fiction and part was modern day. A lot of different plot threads wove together nicely. I recommend it.

Fun. There is a theory that Christopher Marlowe, an English playwright who was a contemporary of Shakespeare, was a spy for the crown and that's why he was murdered. This book takes that theory and turns it into a novel. I liked it.

I loved this book because I am a big historical fiction reader and this had it all - plus a present day twist and a mystery!! The word, "intelligencer" was the word they used for spy back in the Elizabethan times. Very enjoyable.

I am a fan of the Elizabethan Era and of Shakespeare, so Marlow was a familiar character for me. The book is one of of those twisty-turning reads that has you trying to figure out who is a friend and who is an enemy.

It's not an extremely well-written book and employs some fairly lazy exposition techniques, but is interesting and fun because it has Christopher Marlowe and other prominent Renaissance people as characters.

An interesting combo of history and fiction. The past is far more interesting than the parts put in the present tense. The ending is a little too far into the fantasy realm for me but enjoyable otherwise.

Entertaining, but a bit shallow somehow... Interesting history tied in but it felt like someone attempting to write a suspense novel, not really like someone who knew how to write one.

The beginning may be slow, but it all comes together in the end - give it a chance.
