Cwen, a poor weaver struggling to make a living at Whitby Abbey, is accused of possessing a valuable necklace; if found guilty she could be hanged. Wulfrun, Cwen’s daughter, sets out to prove her mother’s innocence.

Set in turbulent Anglo-Saxon times, this is the story of a resourceful dauntless heroine, determined and clever as the wolf that she is named for.

*REVIEWED FOR PUBLISHER*

This is one of the best books I read in 2006. Exciting, adventurous and a richly woven story that brings Anglo-Saxon Northumbria vividly to life. The characters are warm and engaging, the plot is intriguing and the journey of self-discovery will appeal to all young readers as they join Wulfrun in trying to unravel the mystery of the necklace. The underlying message is to trust in yourself and not to judge a book by its cover, as help can come from the most unlikely places

Thoroughly enjoyable YA book on Anglo Saxon England. Lots of period detail and a focus on the domestic. A little slow in places and a bit predictable but in general a page turner. Just enough intrigue to hold attention. Wulfrun was a great heroine.

Tomlinson openly admits her debt to other authors - and who cares? She has woven a story that gripped me and should engage my pupils next term.

The characters are hugely likeable, the prose style tight and the plot sufficiently tortuous to keep me turning pages. I actually cried at moments (which may say more about my tired and emotional state than the book's literary qualities).

I would only question some of the explanatory passages, which may end up being quietly dropped when I read this aloud

Judul : Gadis Serigala
Penulis : Theresa Tomlinson
Penerbit : Atria, 2007

1. Latar belakangnya yang medieval. Gue suka cerita-cerita yang ag

Wolf Girl melengkapi kegilaanku tentang sejarah anglo-saxon setelah Pope Joan.

Seru abis!

Though I was born in the South of England - my parents moved back to the North when I was one year old, and I have lived in Yorkshire ever since. I spent a few years as an infant teacher, but when my children were young I started making picture books for them and became hooked on writing. I love drawing and painting, but my main love is writing, often using the legends and history around me as ins ...more
