A great book in the new trend of material history: The author proposes that by looking at the history of ramen, we can understand the 1,000 year of history of the relation between Japan and China. Outside of the scope of this book, but I think we could probably say the same thing about the history of beef in Japan, and how that reflects the exchange of culture between Japan and the Great Britain as well.
