A bright and engaging alphabet book for Anglophiles young and old. The text covers a wide range of icons and cultural elements at play in London, including a few that are predictable (Underground, Taxi), along with some unexpected entries such as "Villain," and "Exile." The colors and textures of the cut paper collage-style illustrations make them whimsical and engaging. I love Slater's colourful collages, and think this would be a fun way to introduce the city to children, even those who are way passed the alphabet stage. I like the explanation at the end of the book of exactly what is visible in each picture, though I do think a little more context for each entry would have been useful, especially for people not familiar with London or from overseas.
