When chaos erupts in the small coastal town of Hawthorne, Massachusetts, former vampire-turned-mage Peter Octavian and earthwitch Keomany Shaw arrive to investigate.

Years ago, Octavian helped expose the secret existence of vampires to the world, dismantling the Vatican's sorcery corps in order to save his fellow shadows from destruction. But without the Vatican sorcerers, the magical barriers they spent centuries constructing to keep the forces of darkness out of our world are beginning to fail

This was a nice surprise, in that I didn't know Golden was writing a new Octavian number. As much as I enjoyed it, the previous book in the series was a tough act to follow. Golden does a nice job of reminding the reader of the key events in the earlier entries. The other thing that I did like was how he managed to address what seemed to be plot holes that occur in the course of the story. I do look forward to seeing where he goes with the next volume. Now if he'd just put out another volume in ...more

Octavian is fighting for the survival of mankind - this time from a demon god who brings chaos...
and reapers and wraiths...

Characters that we grow to like and hope for disappear and characters are changed yet not lost....

Octavian loses a friend but gains more new ones who may feature in coming books.

started reading it last night, finished it about 5 minutes good, could not put it down. Hopefully book six is well underway, because I need to know what happens next!!!!!
Another excellent book by the author. Loved the mix of myth and magic he weaves together to create a fast-paced action novel! Can't wait for the next book.
Great read. If you haven't read any of the Shadow Saga, you are definitely missing out. Please pick this series up you won't be disappointed!
A mix of urban fantasy and horror, this book was non-stop action. I love the world building. I am going to look for the other books in this series.
Superb!! I love how diverse each of Christopher Golden's series is. Each has a different texture. I need to get the first in this series now.
