One of the greatest gifts of humanity is love, and Robert V. Taylor skillfully reveals that love is ultimately rooted in our own ability to celebrate and be grateful for ourselves in the context of life's journey. A New Way To Be Human encourages readers to be present to the reality of their life in order to consciously invite compassion, positive risk and deep relationship into daily life. Taylor's seven spiritual pathways take readers on a journey through self-discovery and appreciation, culti ...more
Self-help books and inspirational stories are plentiful: about as ubiquitous as ever. Over the years, there are only a few that have truly excited me but the new book by Robert V. Taylor, "A New Way To Be Human", truly inspires me. It manages to combine the right amount of self-reflection, spiritual truths and wisdom without being trite. There is something in each chapter of this book for any person at any stage in their life. No matter where you are on your spiritual path and no matter on which ...more

Thank you Robert Taylor for such an inspiring and refreshing book! You take us through a wonderful journey of self-discovery while sharing your life’s rich stories. One of my favorites is “Coming Home”. I re-discovered some memories of my own. I enjoy how you can keep returning to stories in this book. You find yourself re-thinking of your own life and personal growth. Realizing the changes of how you view things in your past as your lens of life continues to grow and change. A New Way to Be Hum ...more

What a great book! So often I find myself 'stuck' playing one or two notes, over and again, instead of playing the SONG of life--perhaps you can relate? In his book, A New Way to Be Human, Robert Taylor lovingly walks you through a process for self-examination and transformation--helping you to live life more fully and, dare I say, with a song in your heart. To me, his voice is authentic and compassionate--never preachy or clinical--and the wisdom he shares is extremely impactful. The ingredient ...more

"Spiritual" has always been a problem word for me. It seemed like in defining it, any movement I made toward a closer relationship with God was interfered with or even blocked. Robert Taylor's book reflects a more holistic yet pragmatic approach than other books I've read. I found myself often identifying with the author's personal journey to wholeness and meaning ... which led me to opening up to the practical advice of his "7 Pathways." As the author of a top selling personal development book, ...more

Received for review.

Since the author was born and raised in South Africa (he's white, by the way) there was quite a bit about race relations in the book. This, in combination with the religious aspects of the book, didn't particularly impress me.

The messages are generally positive and to encourage the reader to become the best person they can be. Some of the inspirations provided are beneficial, but obviously not everything is for everyone. Every reade

A fascinating life story we can all learn from

My main issue with a lot of spirituality books is that they tend to employ the age-old dogma that essentially amounts to “I’m right, you’re wrong.” This one is different. It’s an invitation to share our views and our lives, whether they’re conflicting or congruous. By opening up to these daily possibilities, we can become more aware, more energized, and more alive. Despite being an ordained Episcopal priest with ties to an Archbishop, Taylor freely p

Packed with wisdom and crafted with excellence, Robert V. Taylor's book "A NEW WAY TO BE HUMAN" is an excellent resource for anyone interested in getting more out of life, and that should be everyone. For this reason, I highly recommend this very helpful and well written book. Although this typically isn't the genre that I read, I was captivated by the rich experiences that Robert uses to help the reader understand the 7 Spiritual Pathways to Becoming Fully Alive. I plan to refer back to this bo ...more
My ARC was awful and so I couldn't really appreciate this book that is a long suggestion to act better and more compassionate in your life, following the example of Desmond Tutu.

This is a wonderful book. In A New Way To Be Human author Robert Taylor provides both an inspirational read and a timeless resource for those of us seeking to live more deeply into our values. This book is entertaining as well as inspiring. Each section includes suggestions for new practices to guide a reader who is looking for active pathways to follow. Having completed my first read of this book, I now plan to use it as part of my regular meditations.
This book is one of the most energizing reads I have experienced. Very elegant, poetic writing! Taylor has a wonderful gift for expressing the Holy in a new way, going to the heart of that which is divine in all of us. He invites the reader to conscious living from inside out; the breath of life fueling our every moment. He challenges us to become aware of each moment and how we are in the world for ourselves and for others.

A friend and I read this book together as a kind of study group and it was a wonderful experience. "A New Way to Be Human" helped us to see in what areas we needed to improve as people as well as our strengths. And Robert Taylor's inspiring personal story helped us both to better relate to the material. It was a book that certainly transformed our lives, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Dr. Taylor shared his life story and his experience with the civil rights struggle in South Africa, and his journey as a priest here in the United States. He presents an approach to being human, staying sane, that is excellent.
