In this book we learn about George Washington Carver, we learn a little about his life growing up, where he went to school, his inventions and how they helped farmers. He was born in 1864 and life for him was a struggle because racism was an issue at the time, which made it difficult for him to go to school. Eventually he did go to school, he graduated high school and went on to college,he even became the Director of Agriculture in Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute for Negroes. He helped ...more

I enjoy using the big books for mini lessons in the classroom. Students like to point out the boxes and captions which lead to students asking more questions about the top. George Washington Carver is one example of the People in History big books, but with these books there is great potential for student knowledge. This is a great book to read to your students about George Washington Carver's life and discoveries. The big book version is also great to use in the classroom so that all the students can view the book as you read.
