That is, until she meet Sarah, a beautiful and charismatic American-French girl who moved back to Paris for high school. Much to Charlene's shock and delight, the two girls qui ...more

We know at the beginning of the book that Charlene has killed her best friend. What we don't know is why. In the beginning we meet Charlene in her prison cell. She admits what she has done and she doesn't seem to be remorseful. From there she begins the story of her life: from a shy child to a haunted adolescent. Sarah, an American French girl, comes into Charlene's life in high school and from then on Charlene's life is doomed.

This was an interesting novel. Short, but really long enough. What

I think the idea behind this novel is really good- a young teen's obsession with another teen leads to murder and prison. I did think that the obsession part was handled well, but the ending was abrupt. It ends with the murder and the discovery of the body, but doesn't explain how she is caught and exactly what her sentence was. This is not a book that answers the questions that it raises with the reader, which isn't always a bad thing, but for me it kept me at a distance in this book. Overall t ...more

I finished this one, but only because it was short.
I read this years ago, back when my depression was just beginning, and I just couldn't put the book down(even though this was the time when I hated reading)because I felt like somebody finally understood what I was going through. Now that I reread it, I get it even more than back then, and it is still one of my favorite novels.
It's short, it's daunting, and it's so easy to read. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

This book suffers from a poor translation, or super crappy writing, and an implausible, unbelievable story. It's no great mystery, from the beginning, as to who has been murdered, but the narrator's descent into madness is ridiculous, as was her strange obsession with her bitchy friend. I rolled my eyes continually. The only reason I kept on, was the print was large, and the book was a slight 117 pages. I also hoped it would get to the part where she goes to prison, as she is telling her tale fr ...more

Enjoyed reading this tremendously. Loved both characters. Chase with his foul mouth (oh my), Faye with her innocence (not annoying) had my laughing quite a bit. Good read.

Different. The book was good. Believable storyline.
Interesting book. Very short read, but delivered the point. The story starts off with the aftermath and Charlene recounts the events that led to her actions -- it's rather predictable, really. What makes it fascinating is the timing of the every single event and how each of Sarah's cruel blows became magnified to the point that you don't really want to blame Charlene for her decision. --Minor spoiler--

I especially liked the final paragraphs and how it doesn't fully go back to where the story st
I read this book when I was taking German as-a-second-language course back in high school. It was quite readable and relatable due to the fact that the relationship described in the book can happen to any teenager. However, I wouldn't recommend this book to those who have already passed those embarrassing years of middle and high school, just because, looking back now, it all seems so irrelevant.

Loved the writing, and how it's pieced together. loved the book overall although effed up for sure. Can't believe the author was soo young when she wrote this book. Talk about an inspirational author, gutsy enough to write such a crazy story.

A quick little read in the vein of Camus (who is referenced a couple times in the story as well). I enjoyed it. If you like French existentialism plus teenage girl angst, you'll probably like it as well.

This is probably the book that change my entire existance! It shows practically my life and I can truly identify with Charlie! This is the most amazing book I've ever read!
Voor zo'n jonge schrijfster verrassend goed geschreven. Lekker tussendoortje. Je leest het in een dag uit.
Had to read this for school. It's fairly good, but not really something I'd have read on my own.
No, rozhodně to byla zajímavá četba, takovej náhled do mysli labilního člověka.
The most stirring, shoking, craziest book, which inspired me and destroyed my life.

I really, really love this book. Amazing!
Eh, an interesting book but a very strange read
