Rosny's French is a bit advanced for me but I struggled through it and was well-rewarded, his Prehistoric Romances are quite good. Very much in the vein of Conan Doyle but with a Gallic sensibility, the pulp sentiments and situations are clearly superior to any Anglophone contemporaries. A wide variety of (now outdated) prehistoric stories depicting the struggles of cavemen against nature and each other. J.-H. Rosny Aîné was the pseudonym of Joseph Henri Honoré Boex, a French author of Belgian origin who is considered one of the founding figures of modern science fiction.
