Fast, easy read. I only liked it because it featured Jair from Wishsong. Elfstones and Wishsong are my favorite Shannara novels out of them all. So more Wishsong is always good. Very cool ability.
Too bad this graphic novel was in black & white, I'd have preferred color but I wasn't reading it for the graphics, just the story. Had it been in color, I might have appreciated the artwork more.

Having read all of the previous Shannara books, I had to read this. Although I am not a reader of graphic novels (apart from the very occasional Sandman) I thought it had the potential to be better than some of Brooks' more recent books with its setting in the 'classic' Shannara period of the original trilogy. The Wishsong has always been a really interesting concept, especially what it can do to you and the dangerous nature of all magic. The story, then, appealed to me with its exploration of J...more

While I thought at first this was just a regular book, I was surprised to see it is a graphic novel. Having read the Watchmen, I was excited to hopefully put a visual image to the descriptions Terry Brooks gave of so many characters. I have one word for it. Meep. I wasn’t impressed. It was far to comic book style type. Kimber had a pair of jungle panties on. I am not going to go into it. It is just the typical comic book images, not a knock against the people who drew it, but not my cup ...more
A diverting coda to the original Shannara trilogy, though the story doesn't add much to the series' overall narrative. Great artwork, but would have looked even more marvelous in color instead of black and white.
This was a very interesting and short graphic novel. It was my first time ever to read a graphic novel. I like how Jair uses the wishsong to turn himself into Garet Jax - The fearless warrior. By using the wishsong, Jair came close to losing himself within the magic of the wishsong and I believe eventually he will lose himself to it. I was glad to read about the wearcat that could make himself invisible - "whisker". Looks like there could be some romantic feelings between Jair and...more
I've been a Terry Brooks fan for near a decade, and most of his books have always entertained me. When I first heard of Dark Wraith a year or two ago, I was hesitantly excited. After it was released, I picked it up in the book store, browsed through it, and then decided that I didn't want to own this Brooks book. I forgot about it until I spied it at my local library the other day, whereupon I seized it and decided to read it.

I finished reading Dark Wraith a day or two ago. First let me say/acknowledge that I've been a Brooks fan for, wow, about 20 years now. I've read all of his books except two -- First King, which for some reason I just cannot get into -- and Elves of Cintra, which is on my reading list for the summer. Except for First King, I've thoroughly enjoyed them all (the movie adaptations are a little iffy, yes). Terry has a great way of creating worlds and characters that are very believable and acces...more
All in all a good graphic novel, expanding on the story of Jair Ohmsford from Terry's original trilogy. I the art style was well done and the storyline, despite being a little hackneyed, was worth a read. Normally I would have given this book a three star rating because of it's plot but I give it slightly higher due to my love of Terry's Brook's world and his willingness to explore different mediums than just regular novels. I hope there are more put out.
This was my first graphic novel. It was a very fast and easy read. I enjoy terry brooks' books, so I thought I would try this one. I liked the concept and the story line definitely kept me going. However, I am not used to seeing the pictures (cartoons) with what I am reading. I would much rather read a book and let my imagination take over. I do recommend this book though if you like graphic fantasy novels.
Terry Brooks calls his foray into graphic novels a “grand experiment.” I think the experiment failed. It’s almost like he thought to himself “Gee, if I stuff enough pictures in the book, maybe it will distract the readers from the fact that there is no plot.” While I do find it comforting to revisit familiar concepts and characters in new guises, this attempt just left me cold.
A sad continuation of a very good book. I find what was done here a travesty of backwards thinking and not so well thought out changes from how the characters were from the end of the last book and what happens here. Sorry Terry but this was your worst work.

I'm a huge fan of the Shannara sagas, and this one didn't let me down. I wish that they would come out with more graphic novels...maybe to tie in the books a little bit more. What happens to the characters in between the generations maybe.

I guess I'm just not into the graphic novels. I've read close to all of Terry Brook's books so I had to get this one. I perfer to make my own pictures as I read and have more story to follow. The artwork no matter how good just dosen't seem to match what I imagine.
Don't get me wrong: I'm a huge Terry Brooks fan. I have also been intrigued by the story of Jair and Brin Ohmsford, so when I found out that more had been written, I naturally had to read it. I guess that I was looking for more detail to the story than can be provided by a graphic novel. I still want more depth, more imagery, etc. I feel like I was thrown a teaser rather than a continuation, I guess because I know what Terry Brooks is capable of, and it is so much more than this. I can tell...more
A great story but not very well suited for the graphic novel format. Or maybe this was just a poorly executed graphic novel. Any road, proof perhaps that fantasy writing is much more than just plot and dialogue.
A fun little read, but desperately lacking the substance of a full fledged work. The art is good, but I found myself less immersed in the story because of it. I found myself missing the wonderful descriptions that Brooks usually weaves into his story telling, and the pictures just don't do enough to make up for that lack. All that aside, Wishsong has always been one of my favorites from the Shannara series and I will never balk at having more of that story told. Definitely worth the hour or so o...more
As a fan of the Shannara books, I found that the magic just did not translate well in comic form. The storyline was ok, but a bit brief. All in all an ok read, but if you are looking for Terry Brooks, read the novels.
A return to the World of Shannara and the characters of Wishsong is greatly appreciated. The art is wonderful and the additional material is a good bonus. I found the story to be a little flat
generic fantasy novel w/a quest and a brother and sister and a troll and a wizard... the art is good. something i'm passing on to the library rather than my friends that read fantasy
Having not read any of the novels, I was not impressed with the graphic novel at all. All black and white and the story was not that interesting. This one was boring.
It was awesome, it gave me a chance to see how this could be in comic form. It flowed well and it keeps you reading, a real page turner.
I was very excited for this book to come out. I have to say for a graphic novel it was wonderful. The pictures were excellent and the story line Terry Brooks did wonderful on. I would have liked the pictures to be in color but it was great the way it was.

The first Graphic Novel I read...great story and great art
A quick fun to read story with decent art.
it was an ok graphic novel.
Fun story with cool pictures. Manga blends perfectly with fantasy.

Terry Brooks was born in Illinois in 1944, where he spent a great deal of his childhood and early adulthood dreaming up stories in and around Sinnissippi Park, the very same park that would eventually become the setting for his bestselling Word & Void trilogy. He went to college and received his undergraduate degree from Hamilton College, where he majored in English Literature, and he received his...more
