My Aunt had nothing but praise for this book, and reccommended that my mom read it. As usually happens, my mom didn't have much time for reading, so she asked if I would read it for her and give her the essential bits.

I started to notice strange things right off the bat, little phrases and notions from the author that seemed anything but congruent with the Judeo/Christian God from the Bible. I started to notice strange things right off the bat, little phrases and notions from the author that seemed anything but congruent with the Judeo/Christian God from the Bible. Never the less, I shrugged it off and continued through the book, but the further in I got, the bolder the author became in stating his blasphemous beliefs- and claiming they were direct from God.

Never the one to shrink from a challenge, I thought I could take some notes, and mark the passages in the book which were incorrect- but after my highlighter died, I realised how pointless the task really was. I quickly came to the conclusion that there simply wasn't enough highlighter ink in the world to bring light to the anti-christic principles in the book.

The author clearly embraces Pantheistic and New-Age beliefs, which are entirely at odds with Christianity. For example, the belief that we are all god, is an incredibly stupid and egocentric idea which is very popular among new-agers, but how does it fit in with what the Bible tells us?

"Hear, o Israel, The LORD our God is one LORD." Deuteronomy 6:4

"Unto thee it was shown, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside Him." Deuteronomy 4:35

"That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else." 1 Kings 8:60

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5

Another common Idea in the book is the thought that we will all go to heaven when we die, regardless of religion or works. Does the author sincerely believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are in heaven? That statement freaked me out as much as the first one, and I'll tell you why. Hidden in the innocent wishful thinking of that idea (who wants to think that people go to hell, it's a terrible place!)

I bought this some time ago and, to be honest, only read the first book. After that I couldn't read any more. I give this volume a 2-star rating, and here's why:

My boyfriend and I watched the movie together. We saw it in Blockbuster and thought we'd give it a shot. Well, I liked the movie so much that I soon paid $26 for this volume so I could read the words for myself. I was excited... finally, to know what God himself is thinking! I give this volume a 2-star rating, and here's why:

Well, I liked the movie so much that I soon paid $26 for this volume so I could read the words for myself. I was excited... finally, to know what God himself is thinking! I got through the first book and got many headaches and heartaches along the way. This book was very much misrepresented in the movie, for starters. Secondly, it just was not at all what I was expecting. The basic message I got from this book was, "Do whatever you want, as long as it makes you happy. Everyone is going to Heaven anyway." (And Heaven isn't even that great, from what I understand.) It left me feeling that the greatest thing this world -- and the next -- has to offer is temporary happiness. Is that it? Even ferrets are capable of temporary happiness. I thought we were destined for so much more.

In addition, it made God out to be some guy who just doesn't seem to care about the people he created. Sure, he doesn't want them to suffer, and wants them to be happy, but it's not much deeper than that. He doesn't care about what we do or why we do it, or even if we have a relationship with him. As long as we have a good time, learn a few things, and be happy.

So really, I did learn one thing from reading this book. It's just a book, like any other, and if I'm looking for God, he can't be found in a book. Everyone thinks they have the answer. Many people claim that God speaks to them -- yet it's always something different from each person.

So why not give this book only one star instead of two? Honestly, because so many people have at least accepted the idea of God from reading this book. Accepting that there is a God is a very good first step. Hopefully, people will eventually be led to a greater idea of God than what this book has to offer. (less)

Reader Beware! Many organized religion attendees have found the ideas and concepts in this book to be blasphemous. Discussions of these concepts may cause arguments with friends and family.

I will always be 'currently-reading' this book (read my review under Coversations with God #1), since it was part in turning my life around and speaks to my soul.
Since 'Conversations with god' I've discovered several other books, speaking the same Truth, in different forms, but this book is like a first lover, one that will always have a special place in my heart.

I experienced some anxiety before I started reading this series. I did a lot of online research and side reading while reading the 3 part series. The feelings and thoughts I had while reading the series caused the most personal contemplation I have experienced since junior high school. I studied metaphysics, mysticism, and other related topics for nearly a year before I decided I was ready for Conversations With God. Within just a few pages, I realized that what I was reading answered so many questions and clarified why so many traditional, orthodox religious ideas create so many contradictions and so much confusion.

Opening with a touch of philosophy, Conversations With God explains a great deal about creation. In the beginning, there was only God, pure spiritual light, no opposing forces. In order for God to know Himself, He had to create the physical realm, for to understand one concept, you must understand its opposite. To understand “fat” there must be “thin.” To understand “tall” there must be “short.” The purpose of life, according to Walsch (and God), is to understand ourselves as physical beings in order to remember who we are as one individual extension of a universal consciousness. If Walsch himself is an extension of God, it no longer becomes such a stretch to think that he could actually be conversing with his Higher Self, or God.

Conversations With God teaches that there is no devil, no hell, at least not in the sense that traditional religion teaches. Hell is a complete separation from God, but that separation is man-made, and the separatist can return to God at any time. God does not care so much what we do as long as we learn from having had the experience and grow to understand the difference between right and wrong. There are no “commandments,” so to speak, as traditional religion teaches. Rather, there are “commitments,” ideals put forth into the world by guide to demonstrate how to live a love-based life. For why would God give us free will and then demand we behave in a certain way? As you can see, Conversations With God challenges just about every aspect of traditional religion.

Why do people get sick? Why do natural disasters and terrorist attacks occur? These complex questions and more are dealt with from the perspective of the law of attraction, without using those exact words. Walsch (and God) explains that illness, calamity, and even natural disaster are the result of individual or collective consciousness and can be controlled. How you think is as important as what you think about in creating the life you want to live. Although not as bold and superficial as The Secret, the law of attraction plays a huge role in Conversations With God, as God explains that you do not exist with some predetermined soul purpose, but, rather, your purpose in this life is to create the life you want to live and to remember who you are, a spiritual being having a physical experience.

Certain concepts within Conversations With God are difficult to absorb. God explains that the human body was not designed to age. In fact, it was designed to live forever. Only through the human collective conscious mind has the concept of aging and ailment been designed. Also, those who find reincarnation an impossibility will certainly struggle with this book. God explains to Walsch that he has lived over 600 lives, some as murderers and some as saints.

Books two and three promise further discussion of life, how a collective-conscious paradigm shift can heal the planet, and even talk of life on other planets and within other galaxies. Many of life’s grandest questions are answered within the pages of the first book of Conversations With God. This review has barely scratched the surface. If traditional orthodox religion has left you confused, confounded, with unanswered questions, take a look at Conversations With God, Book 1. Be prepared to open your mind to new concepts. Then, make your own determination and look inside yourself for the answers to your questions.

This book really helped me when my father was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and passed away six months later. I found Conversations with God very comforting. I am not generally a very religious person and I found that the message in this book was one that I could really relate to. This book was recommended to me by a friend when I first found out about the cancer and I have since recommended it to others.

This book could almost make me believe in a personal God. At least this God is intelligent, even funny at times, and wise. He is not mean or in demand of our worship and submission. I recommend this book to anyone alienated from faith, as I am, and seeking to take a second look at the spiritual side.

To be taken with a grain of salt. I'm not sure if the author is a divine clairvoyant or just a strung-out hippie ... or both. But some of the advice in the book is worth weighing for application in one's own life. Some discussions created turning points for my life. I've re-read it several times.

So much wisdom packed between these covers - it truly takes the rest of ones life to grasp as well as "elevate" the meaning from these concepts from mind to heart in that undistinguishable place we call soul on its growth path I call spiritual enlightenment. Walsch deserves credit for taking on such an ambitious project. The result ranges from asinine to profound. I forgive him the misses because I found a lot of it very thought provoking. I would imagine a lot of people would find this book hokey, and they would be right, but there's a lot good stuff in there, too.

Excellent spiritual, non-religious view of everything. Based on channeling by Walsch. The one message that stood out most clearly for me from this series is "think for yourself." Quite powerful!
