I suppose it is fair to suggest that millions of people on both sides of the Atlantic have whistled or sung many of E. Y. “Yip” Harburg’s most popular songs over a span of many years without having heard of him or his fascinating story, and that’s such a pity because he was without doubt one of America’s most outstanding lyricists –colourful, often controversial, always courageous in sticking to his principles, and, above all, a wonderfully talented writer…definitely someone worth knowing ...more
