I would say, even better than Yu Yu Hakusho, though I love that one to pieces. All the characters, all the trademark jokes, all the personalities. One thing this mangaka should be famous for is the creation of multi-faceted characters who are just hilarious both when they're killing you and when they're digging a hole to sleep in for three days. The cast of characters alone will have you fits of laughter.

My favorite characters are, oddly, Leorio and Kurapica. Usually I go for the NEED REDEMPTIO

Hunters are specially trained workers who's fields range from gourmet hunters to assassins. All Hunters must take the deadly and excruciating Hunter Exam, planned out by determined task makers, to receive their Hunters license. Gon is a nature loving boy who wants to become a Hunter to gain access to all restricted areas to search for his missing father. The story is narrated to make Gon’s test the main story storyline. When Gon leaves to finally take the exam, he teams up with two other exam t ...more

Listen to my warning and listen well! If you so choose to read this manga, read it well past the first couple of volumes and don't give up. Because the first volumes make the entire series as a whole seem bland and childish, but as the manga progresses you will be richly rewarded.

The only problem with Hunter x Hunter is the writer. He is very lazy -_-! He takes unbearable and frequent long vacations. So if you are searching for something good to read regularly you are at the wrong place.

I'll just say I love this series. The original anime was the first I ever completed, and I'm making my way through the new one now. Since I heard the new one was more accurate to the manga, I started reading it... and was pleasantly surprised to see it was. It's more interesting watching the new one and seeing just how accurately everything's playing out. I can enjoy both of them more when it's combined, and admire the old one for all the funky extra padding it conjured up out of nowhere--but I ...more

My rating scale for this--and all subsequent volumes--will be based on story and art. I caught an episode of the 2011 anime on Animax and I realized, hey, I never knew what happened after the Zoaldyck arc (back when it was on GMA). I was also in the mood to read something gory, so I decided to read the manga.

Gon Freecss, 11 going on 12, is off to take the prestigious Hunter exam above the objections of his adoptive mother, Mito. The exam is an arduous one, where it is

To be perfectly honest, I should take off a star for the fluctuating quality of the artwork, but this is such an imaginative and well-balanced series that I can't bring myself to. Though this was a Yoshishiro Togashi series, for whatever reason I dared to be sceptical and stayed away for the longest time, but was glad to be proven wrong with strong characterisation across the board from the protagonists to the villains, an intriguing and flexible power system and even a nostalgic sense for YuYu ...more
Over-the-top. That's what makes it fun.

A friend recommended this to me, saying it was a "deconstruction." Now, I've encountered deconstructions in the past *looks at Madoka and sighs* so I was a little hesitant to pick this one up. My friend swore it was really, really good, and so I decided to give it a try.

For those unaware of what deconstructed means, it's basically "take the most basic tropes, cliches, and conventions of a genre and play them straight, regardless of what the results." (see T
Wow, wasn't this a surprising delight! I have heard many good things about Hunter x Hunter, but I never thought I would enjoy it quite as much as this. I generally find shounen manga lacking because not every mangaka is skilled at drawing action scenes to their full effect and most shounen manga is 80% action, but Togashi Yoshihiro manages to combine just the right amount of great plot with action and interesting characters, so that it doesn't rest entirely on Team A waving their large swords at ...more

So this is my first time reading Hunter x Hunter. I've decided I'll never read either Naruto or Bleach, and that's mostly because they're too long and I've already committed myself to a long-running manga (One Piece), and plus I was never interested. But I've heard great things about Hunter x Hunter. I remember seeing this show (the original anime) in Arabic dub on Spacetoon, and I watched the first few episodes but got bored a little too quickly. Now however there's a new anime that's truer to ...more

Alright, listen to me, you want to read this manga. You don't know it yet, but I do, so I rated it 4 stars although it may only deserve 3 yet, I don't care.
The one thing I'm most picky about so far is the art, but here's the good thing: YOU CAN WATCH THE ANIME THEN. I recommend the 2011 version first because it has great music and made me cry in several occasions. And once you're done watching the anime, come back to reading the manga because you want to know how things go on. (Also the art will
This is in the shonen subgenre where each character has a different superpower, signature weapon, and/or special martial arts theme. It seems awfully violent for an instance where the main character is 11, but then it sometimes veers into what seems more age-appropriate. Weird.

Following the story of Gon Freecs, we travel to a distant world where there are professional hunters in society. As Gon goes on his adventures, meeting new people and making new friends, he also finds out that the world is a dangerous place. Learning how to survive in any situation is one of the challenges a hunter must overcome.
HunterxHunter is a fun story that takes the reader to far off places, in a world where anything is possible. I had a ton of fun reading it, and could barely put it down.

(just for the record, this is a slight alteration of my anime review)

Hunter x Hunter easily ranks amongst the most interesting shounen manga ever made. At the same time, it is also amongst the most frustrating ones, as it has several mishaps.

Let’s start with the story. It’s about a little boy named Gon, looking for his father who is a Hunter, a super mercenary of sorts travelling the world and doing missions and quests. Like finding something rare or arresting a wanted criminal. So in the conte

Just like any other mangas out there, the first chapters clearly introduced the main premise and possible conflicts. Gon is very likable and a bit predictable but I liked how Yoshihiro Togashi put some mystery on Lerio and Kurapika’s respective characters. It was not “pilit” but instead, at some point, both of them (and us, readers) has to earn each other’s trust. While Gon seems to have an open-book kind of life who dreams to be the best hunter out there, Lerio and Kurapika seems to carry this ...more

HUNTER X HUNTER is a growth story of a thrilling boy. The game characteristics may be high, and, in an elaborated story, as for the part of Greed Island, the feeling becoming desperate knows children in particular. However, it is characters that I evaluate most. I have a favorite character and a hateful character. I feel like understanding the taste of the person to some extent by giving the name of the character. By the way, the character whom I love is Hisoka, and the hateful character is Leor ...more

Gon is the gifted child of a famous Hunter, a person specialized in tracking down treasure, monsters, and even other people. Gon wishes to become a Hunter just like his estranged father, but in order to do so, must pass a series of grueling tests designed to push the limits of the applicants wits, strength, and endurance. This is a really fun series, reminiscent of Dragonball and Pokemon, and will make you want to go out in to the world and discover the wonders awaiting you!

Hunter x Hunter, Vol. 01 is an exciting introductory volume to a series that leaves you curious enough to want to read more. The strong point of this volume is all of the different, interesting characters. It's only the first volume and a huge array of unique characters have already been introduced. From the endearing lead character, Gon, to the ridiculous Leorio and level-headed Kurapika - they were all intriguing and entertaining.

I'm interested to see what danger lies ahead fo

It was really good. When I first read the manga, I was a little bit confused because some of the character was similar-looking. I really liked the part where Gon helps the others, and Killua managing to defeat a lot of people. I especially loved the part where Gon held against the attacks, so that he could have his hunter card.

I finally got my hands on a copy of this manga! So happy I finally got to read it. Interesting storyline, and I'm dying to know what happens next. The only bad part is the art.
Definitely got me interested to read more. I wonder if Gon is going to be part-something like Yusuke was. He seems unusually skilled.
Pretty mildly okay book. This is like Naruto but hardcore. It was pretty darn fun though. Like an adventure. Love it!
