This story is about a little salamander on the quest to conquer his fear of the dark, but in the process his conquers it on his own. I love the colorful graphic of this book. There are simple shapes, but the color pops off the page. This book is great for prek and kindergarten students as it is simple and keeps their interest. The basic plotline is that of the classic journey which will be a story structure students will follow the rest of their learning career.

This has illustrations reminiscent of Steve Jenkins' cut-paper collage work. Pip is a salamander who is afraid of the dark. The frogs suggest that Old Abra the wizard might have some magic that could help. Pip's journey to find Old Abra takes him through a dark wood, a dark tunnel, and through the dark night.
