The Floods aren't like other families - for a start, they're all witches and wizards. And they weren't made in the traditional way like you or me. Some of Nerlin and Mordonna Flood's six eldest children were made in the cellar, using a ancient recipe book and a very big turbocharged wand. The youngest child, Betty, is a normal, pretty little girl - but her attempts at ...more

The Flood family isn’t what you’d call totally normal—Nerlin and Mordonna, the parents, are a wizard and a witch, respectively; Valla, the oldest of the seven children, works at a blood bank (and brings his work home with him!); Satanella was once a cute little girl, but after a terrible magic accident involving a shrimp and a faulty wand, she turned into small dog; Merlinmary is completely covered in hair, so nobody knows if it’s a boy or a girl; Winchflat is the family genius—except that he ...more

Sebuah keluarga penyihir yang menyeramkan dan sadis. Sangat sadis.

Review by my nine year old daughter:

The Floods is another book that I read for my school’s reading challenge. The author and illustrator, Colin Thompson is an Australian and one of the authors that are coming to the book festival at my school this year.

This book is the first of a series of Flood’s adventures. The book was easy to read and is suitable for junior readers with big print, chapters and black and white illustrations.

The Floods are no ordinary family. They are all witches and wizards

Yaa... ceritanya sepasang emak-bapak punya memiliki tujuh orang anak

The Floods are a strange family who live in a normal neighbourhood. Nerlin and Mordonna are the Mum and Dad with six children who have arrived in different ways – by spells etc.
Valla – 22 - who works in a blood bank. Satanella – 16 – Was once a pretty girl but now resembles a scruffy dog. Merlinmary – 15 - Nobody is sure whether Merlinmary is a boy or girl as she/he is so hairy and no one can get close enough to find out.
Winchflat – 14 – A nerdy genius who happens to look dead. The twins – Morbi

The Floods, a wizard and witch family, live in a realatively normal neighborhood. They are a nice family besides the drinking of blood and attending wizard school. There's just one problem, their neighbors, the Dents. The Dents are an annoying, lazy, loud, and criminal family that are always bothering the Floods. The Floods, tired of their neighbors, get rid of each family member one by one. They turn the Dent son into a refrigerator, the daughter is eaten up by a grave in the Flood's backyard, ...more

I read this a long time ago but the floods used to be my favourite when I was in the sixth grade. I thought this was about vampires but after reading the summary now i remember this was about wizards and witches. Whoops, my bad (but really if you look at the illustration the floods are so pale it's like they're vampires). There are a bunch of children in the family and they're all unique in their own way. One is addicted to blood (i mean really! vampires, right?), one is covered in fur and no ...more

Buku yang aneh, tapi unik. Sadis, tapi seru.

Awalnya pas liat covernya sempet gak yakin soalnya ilustrasinya aneh banget, dikiranya semacem horror gitu.

Ternyata salah banget.

Keluarga ini bener2 unik ma

This is the first book in a new series. This family’s story is a mix between The Series of Unfortunate Events and the Adam’s Family. The Floods are almost the exact copy of the Adam’s Family. The family consists of a beautiful dark mother, a slightly dumb father, and several weird children one of which is completely covered in hair like Thing. Opposite of what the title suggests, the Floods are not good neighbors. Their neighbors begin to bother them so much that they come up with creative ways ...more

The first book in the Floods family series... dark, nasty, morbid but also quite hilarious! The Floods, an unusual family, have got new neighbours, very unpleasant ones, and these need to be gotten rid off.

The book's fairly short, which makes for a quick, refreshing read (or, in my case, listen) but contains heaps of lines that cracked me up! I found it highly entertaining... e.g. the somewhat normal daughter Betty Flood does away with one of the neighbours' children by turning the son into a fr

The Floods, a family of witches and wizards (think - the Addams Family, or maybe even the Munsters) who look evil and weird (but are actually very nice) live next door to the another family who looks normal (but are really mean and nasty.)

Very gross in parts with talk of maggots and blood and icky descriptions of getting eaten by a buried corpse and other oddities, this book won't be for everyone. The parents (and the kids for that matter) next door are really very horrible people who steal, op

I gave this one the highest rating because it was the first one I read and they are mildly amusing, especially to begin with. There is enough wickedness in Thompson's sense of humour to surprise a laugh even out of a reader like me. I love the way the series is named after the crappest TV shows you could ever watch (apart from play school which is an awesome show if you are under seven).

Thompson's misuse of footnotes adds to the comedy and the irreverent tone which is what is most likeable about

My seven-year-old son brought this home from school to read and I made him stop reading it around Chapter 4. Mr. Dent is described as having a beer bottle collection in his front yard, and Mrs. Dent beats her son in stores in order to call attention to him while she steals cigarettes. This is a book for 8-12 year olds, but are these really the topics we want our children reading about?!

Very quick and funny tale about an "Adam's family". Reminded me of Philip Ardagh's writing style and his ideas a lot without feeling like a copy, it's just the same kind of macabre, dark humour I completely love.
Unique, creative, morbid - still the family is extremely loveable, even though it's a little hard to distinguish them all.

I love this book, particularly for the characters. I've enjoyed getting to know them and their quirky ways as the story and series goes on. I borrowed the audio version from the library for my son to listen to in the car on our trip away. It added another spark listening to an actor do all the great character voices. The humour has something for kids of all ages. Not very big in Belgium though.

Kind of like the Addams Family. Okay, extremely like the Addams Family. But still adorable and really creepy with acts of. You know. cannibalism. Just the kind of thing I expect to read in the hour-long book I find deep in the children's section of the library.

But still really adorable, somehow, and also hilarious. So yeah. Do rec.

I thought this book was very interesting, but very confusing because there were so many characters and I couldn't remember who was who. My favourite character would be Betty because she is very cheeky and a normal girl, but she still has powers.

Couldn't finish it - just wasn't getting and didn't feel the story was going anywhere. But maybe something for younger kids (3rd grade-ish) who like stories about witches and creepy things.
