Not that I would want Rimbaud as a next-door neighbor, but Robb's biography is the next best thing. What an interesting, unsettling person Rimbaud must have been! Robb gives us very clear views of his temperament, personality, obsessions, drives and motivations - just what I look for in a biography.

This is prolix and dense and frankly, not worthy of an ordinary reader's time. The author is pretentious and long-winded and manages to mummify the energetic life of a true visionary.

When he wasn't too busy swimming in the gutters of Paris, Rimbaud managed to write a bunch of sick poems then run away to Africa to become a gun runner.
