If I could, I would give The Girl With The Cat Tattoo by Theresa Weir....
5000 STARS!
But I can't. (At least not on Goodreads). So, I gave it 5 stars. This book is freakin' adorable. It's quirky, cute, funny, romantic, even has a cool suspense storyline. The funky cat has a POV and does a moon walk. The heroine dresses up like Pippi Longstocking for story time at the library. The hero is the perfect alpha-beta mix of hot undercover cop and volunteer at the homeless shelter. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? All...more

The Girl with the Cat Tattoo by Theresa Weir was free on Kindle, so since I’m freebie grabbing Kindle addict, I snatched up this short story. This is an adorable tale from a few points of view, mainly from a cat named Max who's concerned about his owner, Melody. Ever since Melody’s husband was killed, she hasn’t been herself. She brings home these men Max can’t stand. Max ends up peeing on their clothes to get them out of the house. Max loves Melody and wants to help her find a new man she can...more

Told from the POVs of a matchmaking cat called Max, his owner Melody and new friend Joe, The Girl with the Cat Tattoo is a quirky and cute read with a kick!
Widowed children's librarian Melody has been drowning her sorrows with booze and a string of one night stands. Her Cat, Max takes it upon himself to find her a new mate and restore the previously happy life they had before David was murdered. Max has a fairly unique approach to finding Melody's mate and a list of criteria which include 'Nice...more

This book is almost entirely told from a cat’s POV. If that didn't send you running the other way, you’re probably getting it now, just like I did when I first heard about it. It sounds a bit wacky, and it is, but it’s also funny and unique.
Max’s human is Melody. He’s worried about her because she keeps bringing men to their home, men that just spend the night and leave. Thus Max does what any cat would do and pees on the men’s clothes so they know...more

3.5 stars - I read the first chapter of this book as a short story from Smashwords a long time ago. The author said if readers liked it then she would consider writing more stories. I was one of those readers who said, "More please!" Well, I guess enough people liked it and this novella was the end result. I do appreciate the author listening to the readers and following through.

I should admit, as a prefatory matter, that I hate cats. I want my pets to love me. I want mindless servility. I do not want to own an animal that has a high opinion of herself.
Last night, I went to my brother's house to pick him up for dinner. For the dogs, my arrival was like unto the second coming of Christ in glory. There was much leaping and rolling on backs. There was delirious barking. A stuffed platypus was energetically shaken by the neck until dead.

When Theresa Weir told me she was writing something she referred to as "her cat romance" -- Theresa's first romance in thirteen years -- I was all, Where do I sign up?
Which is funny, if you know me, because I don't particularly like cats. Take it as a testament to how much I like Theresa Weir's books. Her romance novels are always engaging, off-beat, and, well, weird. But in a good way. This new one is all that, and more.

"He liked to think he was one cool cat and everybody who was anybody knew him, but in truth he had very little street cred since he wasn't known outside the walls of his own home. Call it antisocial, but Max preferred humans to the company of cats. Cats seemed ... well, kind of stupid. That was the only way to put it. Stupid and selfish. All they thought about was their own personal comfort. A patch of sun. Favorite food. Sure, those were all good, but a cat had to look beyond that some...more

Max the cat is worried about his human. Melanie lost her cop husband a couple of years earlier, when he was the victim of a shooting, and she's still not doing well. She keeps drinking that smelly liquid and then she brings home men who Max knows are just not right for her (or for him!). Well, if she wants a man, he'll find her one.
It first looks as if Max got it right on his first go. Joe is nice, and he and Melanie seem to like each other just fine. But then Max finds a gun in his backpack...

I'd read a very good review of this book on Dear Author and enjoy Theresa Weir's different writing and despite the fact that I am a dog person rather than a cat one I still ended up enjoying this book, it is just so quirky and different. The book is written majorly from the POV of Max the cat, he is tired of seeing his owner Melody miserable, she goes out and gets jerks home, he knows she still misses her husband David, a cop who was killed two years ago, so he decides to go matchmaking and find...more
This was very cute, with a refreshing tone, but just a little unsatisfying. I loved the portions told from the cat, Max's, perspective. If only my cat were that concerned with my well-being. However, when the POV changed, the semi-distant 3rd person voices of Melody and Joe just felt disconnected and far away. There wasn't a strong sense of emotion. So while having Max's POV was great in its own way, it took away from the romancyness IMO.

We all need a bit of whimsy in our lives, and The Girl with the Cat Tattoo is guaranteed to add it. I wasn't sure about getting so much of the book from the cat's POV, but I love Max's voice. He isn't a person in a cat suit, he's so cat-like! Weir gets cats. ;-) Max's perspective on things is often a bit off and almost always funny. Being a novella, the character development isn't a deep as I'd like, but still good. The slight suspense story is interesting, but it's the romance that predominates...more

What I actually scored it: 2.5 stars, but I really did love Max the cat.
This novella reads like two different books. One is hilarious and brilliant -and it feature's a POV from Maxwell the Cat; a truly unique character- the other is dull and tired young woman romantic comedy. The could have been a national best-seller if it stuck with Max to the end, in fact it could have been my favorite book of 2013.

Loved it! A fun, engaging voice and sweet characters all around, with just enough depth to satisfy an angst-addict such as me. This is what I always hope for when I sit down with a novella but rarely find. In fact, this is what I want in contemporary romance but rarely find. Yeah yeah, there were a few flaws, things that could have been shown but weren't, but it was just fun! The end, it was fun.

I really enjoyed this book, and for such a short and quick read, it had a lot of story there, including a heart-wrenching backstory.
But I have to admit I enjoyed the scenes written from the cat's point of view more than those written from Melody or Joe's. The two of them just didn't seem more than cardboard characters, and the chemistry between them just wasn't there.

What a simply gorgeous story this was. A romance, told from several POV – so far so normal – except that one of the POV was a cat, Max.
Max had been a cat as long as he could remember, but he was pretty sure he’d been a rock star in one of his previous lives.
Max lives with Melody, a children’s librarian, and he longs for her to be happy. She used to be, when her husband was alive, but since he was shot, life has not been the same. Max determines to find her a new boyfriend. He follows a homeless...more
A short, but absolutely captivating read. Perfect for cat lovers and escapists of real-life drudgery, with a little bit of romance thrown in.
I caught myself grinning like a Cheshire Cat on a few occassions, and my heart caught in my chest a few times too, mainly because of some personal parallels that were drawn.
The pace was just right, it said what it needed to without dragging out the ending, although it was all over a little quickly!

Melody's husband was killed in a break-in at their home and two years later she lives alone with her cat Max. By day a choldren's librarian who dresses the part by night she picks up random strangers and takes them home.
Max decides enough is enough and sets out to be a match-maker with hilarious results at times.

The Girl With the Cat Tattoo was just such a fun read that was a great book for me to pick up in between some other heavier books so I could get a much needed breather.
This book is told entirely from a cat's point of view, which may make you go 'Yeah right?' and back away slowly, but trust me on this one, it's actually a really well written and fun read that also contains some serious topics as well as being just a little bit adorable at the same time.

I've got to be honest. I haven't read anything of Theresa Weir's that I haven't enjoyed and I am a hard act to please.
THE GIRL WITH THE CAT TATTOO is a quick read. The heroine, Melody, lost her husband David two years before. He was a police officer and, after surviving tremendous heartache, Melody vowed she would never date another cop. Up to the present time her life included some meaningless relationships with the wrong type of guys to ease her loneliness.

Okay so this book is largely written from a cat's point of view, a matchmaking cat who is also a witness to a murder and can do the moonwalk. And his mistress is a children's librarian who dresses up as Alice in Wonderland and Pippi Longstocking. Oh, and makes cupcakes with cats on them and wears cat pajamas. But! This book also seriously, gently deals with grief and involves a suspense/mystery plot.
Also...ELLEN DEGENERES APPEARS AS A CHARACTER.

This cute novella is mostly from the perspective of the cat (Max). Sick of seeing his owner Melody with losers, Max decides to find her a mate himself. After venturing outside his backyard, he follows a homeless man to a shelter where he meets Joe. He likes Joe and thinks he will be suitable for Melody. It's cute and sweet and written in a simple style entirely appropriate to a cat's perspective. There are some portions from Joe and Melody's perspective as well to round things off. Enjoyable but...more

Oh my goodness! I loved this little story!!!
I have to admit- I was skeptical about this book when I read the blurb. I am NOT an animal person at all. So it's a big deal for me to read something centered around and mostly told by a cat.
That being said- Max the cat is awesome! I love the slightly stuck-up personality the author gave him. I love Max's little cat confessions (such as being afraid of mice) and how Max reacts- both internally and outwardly- to situations.

I downloaded this one when it was offered as a Kindle freebie. I found it to be a cute, quick read. I love short novels and novellas. The chapters told from the cat's point of view were the best.
Unfortunately the storyline was a bit odd and scattered. So, my rating is more of a 3.5.
Ms. Weir can write fun scenes and colorful characters. For that reason I definitely will read more work by her.

I took a chance on this as it was for free and I'm glad I did! I just couldn't put the book down. The characters were very relatable (especially Max!), and they were developed really well by the author. The pace was fluid and the narrative was light and quirky, giving us different perspectives, not just from Max, but with Melody and Joe as well. This is truly an entertaining and great story. Plus points if you're a cat lover because you'd definitely relate to the quirks!
This is a book written from a cat called Max's perspective - yes really ... very weird and yet I read it and kind of enjoyed it. Melody lost her cop husband - he was shot - and Max decides that she needs a new mate - so sets off to find her one - and strangely he does in Joe.
As I said a strange experience reading from the cat's view but was alright!

If you love, or even like, cats, you have to read this book! The story is told from the perspective of Max, a very intelligent cat and one I'd be quite proud to know. His love for his human is quite touching. And it's packed with quite a bit of adventure for a fairly short story. This is one of the best I've read in a while.
I could have sworn I wrote a review on this at some point, but looking back I guess I just told people about it.
Anything I can say about this book would seem to be damning it with faint praise and cliched terms but here goes.
I loved this little book. It is told from the POV of the cat, Max.
Max sees all and knows less than he thinks he does, but is still a great cat (says the not-a-cat-lover). I hesitated to press "buy" because I just didn't know if I could get over my cat issues.
