Alana ~ The Book Pimp

I love this series like fat kids love cake. I can't get enough! The ending of book 2 made my heart just melt.

Love, love, love!

He's won back Elyssa's heart and saved his Dad from rouge vampires; but just when Justin thinks he can ride off into the sunset on a white horse... Trouble literally comes knocking on his door... along with hellhounds.

Spawn relatives with their own agendas, vampires running amok, his father marked for death, and the football boys club breathing down his neck, it seemed th

The second installment in Corwin's Overworld Chronicles series is full of action, adventure, romance (but not the mushy kind), and humor. Picking up where book one left off, the action starts in the first chapter and doesn't let up. We follow Justin and his friends (Elyssa) as they strike out on new adventures.

I love that story is written from a male point of view. That's not something you see often enough, and it is a nice change. The story itself is unique and fun. The world Corwin created in

Spawn relatives with their own agendas, vampires running amok, and his father marked for death, it seems there's no end to the kinds of monsters out to make Justin's life miserable. It's almost enough to make him long for the days of man boobs, Kings and Castles, and nerd status

Corwin pens another laugh-out-loud page-turner for lovers of YA and Adult paranormal alike. No one wrote Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance like this when I was a kid!

What a day and with a to-do list that won’t end! Escape from rogue vampires – check! Huh? Become the bone of contention between the previous fantasy girl of your dreams (Katie) and the current fantasy girl of your dreams (Elyssa) – check! Whoa. One word fantastic.

Justin, the ex-nerd turned all action hero (who only recently discovered he was not quite as human as he thought he was),bounces from one hazardous adventure to another. He is ably assisted by an assortment of unlikely friends he picks up during his escapades. I got so caught up in Justin and Elyssa escapades that I was walking around with my kindle trying to read the next lines.

Harry Potter meet The Matrix! It's always a bad sign for me when it takes me a couple of days to finish a book. Unless I'm super busy or sick, it just doesn't happen. I also hate it when I'm torn about my feelings about a book once I finish it. Lets break it down...

This picks up immediately after book one.

What I enjoyed: The concept and story. Justin is a spawn. An incubus demon who is also part sorcerer and part human. His parents were both shunned from their families and they've been on the ru

John Corwin has done it again. Action packed from the start and filled with ironic, satirical wit. The characters are many and varied including Nerdy Daemon Spawn, even nerdier Sorcerers, Felycans, and yes, even Vampires, but not like any you've seen before. The story is set in and around Atlanta and there is a mystical Grotto located below Phipps Plaza, a mall described by Corwin as being "for people with more money than sense". Living here in Atlanta, I know exactly what he means. :) The book ...more

Another excellent read from John Corwin!

I didn't think it was possible, but I liked this book an eensy bit more than the first ( Sweet Blood of Mine ) :) Lots of action and suspense, plus a further look at the Overworld that I absolutely enjoyed. Justin has grown more 'into' his new self, and he has decided to take his fate by the horns and deal. It's an amazing thing to see. This is a ride you won't wanna miss! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down, it's definitely a page-turner. The

I don't like this one as much as Sweet Blood of Mine, but it's still a good read that gets better as the novel progresses. The series looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.

Dark Light of Mine grabs you from start to finish. Corwin's vision of the Overworld is filled with vibrant characters and vivid details. This is a great follow-up to Sweet Blood of Mine. The action starts up pretty much from Page 1 and never stops. All our favorite characters are back with some wonderful new additions to the "Scooby Gang".

The story picks up right where Book One ends. A chase scene occurs right away and Justin and his friends are still trying to save Justin's Dad(now from an Ass

If Sweet Blood of Mine was a sprint, Dark Light of Mine is a full marathon! Action at every turn as Justin and the crew continue on their quest. Although its far from devoid of humor, this enstallment has a much more "grown-up" feel to it.

Justin Case is no longer the flabby, greasy-haired geek we met in the first of the series. Well, he is still the same Justin (meaning fairly geeky) but being thrust into a dark and twisted paranormal world tends to change a guy. Just a little. I am happy to te

Dark Light of mine is the second book in the Overworld Chronicles.
The last book ended with a call from Justin's mom telling him to stay away from his father.
This book starts with a chase from Hellhounds which was simply superb.. The books takes pace right from the first page and is maintained through out.
There was action, there was romance, their was friendship and top of all there were some really funny moments that would keep a smile on your face till the end..

I absolutely love John Corwin's writing style. It is just hysterical.
Had me laughing all the way through out.
The story was better thought out in this book and executed a lot more smoothly too.
Justin was as funny as ever; self loathing without being annoying but a lot more confident this go around. Elyssa is still a little stuck up for my liking but she redeems herself a little as she did pull the stick out of her ass just a wee bit.
I adore Stacey, she just makes me laugh. I enjoyed all the new

During the first book, I was partially at a loss to determine the major differences that made the book a YA book; the protagonists' age was an obvious factor, but the writing and subject matter could easily be considered an adult title. This book made it a little more clear that pacing was the big thing; this book moves fast.

After rescuing his father from the rogue vampires, Justin's daemonic relatives start taking an interest, violently. This reveals a death mark that has been placed on Justin

Justin Case has gone from super-nerd to super-stud. Man-boobs are gone, he’s on the football team (which is a whole issue in and of itself), and he’s got a hot ninja dhampir girlfriend. You’d think everything was perfect. Only…his mom is missing, his dad has a death mark on him, and his girlfriend’s parents hate him for an event that happened prior to his birth. Hellhounds are chasing him, there is a bounty on his head, and he doesn’t know who to trust. Can this geek at heart find a way to save
Second books can be tricky, they often don't live up to their predecessor. Thankfully that was not the case for Dark Light of Mine. DLoM takes off with a bang from where Sweet Blood of Mine finished. There is a lot of action in this book, with many fights between the Overworld creatures and Justin and his gang. Again Justin is full of humour and sarcasm as he comes to learn more about his new world. And again I laughed out loud throughout this book. All the great characters are back for this ...more

I really wanted to love this one, but I felt like maybe it was more of a "middle book" (i.e., getting the scooby gang in place for book 3). There were so many new characters. I actually switched to another book and then had a hard time remembering all of the characters when I came back to Dark Light of Mine.

I think I enjoyed the first book so much, because we were in Justin's head more and learning about his new powers. (I missed the Justin from the previous book.) I think I saw some reviews fo
