When seventeen-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up...until he opened his mouth. Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-wo...more

All my ratings have been pretty high lately, mostly because I choose very carefully what to read next. I value my time too much to purposely read books I know I won’t like. So what on earth possessed me to pick up this book after the Half-Blood debacle, I have no idea.

Most of my friends loved Obsidian and I respect that, I really do. I can even see why, the ingredients are all there: a gorgeous, mean guy and a plain, book-nerdish girl, a love-hate relationship between our protagonists, hero’s p...more

This Valentines Day I fell in Love with Jennifer L. Armentrout. I had been hearing through the grapevine about JLA an one particular grape has been rather loud about her work. So with all the faith that Kay @ K-books knows what she is talking about I picked up Obsidian first chance I had to read one of "my choice" reads. And now I can officially jump on Ms. Armentrout's space ship and enthusiastically follow her anywhere...

“I have a strange idea that I should test this out.”
“Test what?” My eyes dropped to his lips. I felt myself sway.
“I think you would like to know.” He moved closer, his hand sliding up my arm and resting carefully at the nape of my neck.

Well, now I know why this series is so popular :)
It took me one scene, meeting Daemon, to completely fall in love with him/the book. And it just got better and better! I literally couldn't stop reading and ended up finishing it in the same day I started.

Wow. I did not expect to enjoyObsidian as much as I did. For some reason, I've just been avoiding it, but it was always there in my Twitter and GoodReads feeds. Daemon was frickin' invading my life. Finally, after seeing everyone change their avatars to the Lux series' covers, I felt I had to check it out. Almost all of my friends have given this book anywhere from 3-5 stars, but most averaging around 4. So natu...more

HOLY ALIEN HOTNESS.

After hearing nothing but positive things about this series, I thought it was about time I'd give it a try myself to find out what all the hype was about and WOW... I'm SO GLAD I finally started it!!! There was never a dull moment in this first part of the series and once I got into the story, I ended up devouring it! I'm pretty sure this will quickly become my new favorite YA series once I continue with...more

Okay so I waited for this book forever! I finally got it and read it non stop! It was amazing. I loved everything about it. The story line, plot, the idea of aliens, the characters, the romance and all the hilarious conversations between Daemon and Katy! LOL ;)

It was kind of sad about the whole situation with Dawson (Daemon's brother). I can't wait to find out his story. I just wish he comes back with Bethany somehow. My fave part about the book was the first conversation Daemon and Katy have. I...more

I had to get this book because it was honestly one of the most hyped books of the year. It was so hyped that I've seen countless people on Goodreads put the cover as their profile pics. I personally wouldn't, even if I was absolutely obsessed with this book, because I honestly don't like that cover that much. At all, actually. And it doesn't help tha...more

It's official. Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my new favorite authors.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Obsidian is a brilliant, wholly entertaining first novel in what looks to be a promising science-fiction series. I was expecting good things from this as I had, after all, really enjoyed Jennifer L. Armentrout's Half-Blood. Not only did it not disappoint me, it completely surpassed my expectations and was even more enjoyable than I had been anticipating.

So after reading Obsidian, Jennifer was nice enough to write an extra with Daemon's point of view of a couple of awesome chapters that was at the end in my nook. I gotta say, this was more exciting than reading Obsidian. I have always been in favor of stories being in the guys' POV, I feel we get more out of it than in the girl's perspective. Oh. My. God. This was incredible. I understood him so much better as to why he is such a douche bag half the time. I loved being inside his head and seeing...more

I’ll be honest a few months ago, I had never even heard of Jennifer L.Armentrout but then bam—there is Half-Blood and now bam--Obsidian is here and my oh my, has Jennifer took the paranormal world by storm and I hope she’s here to stay!

Out of all the paranormal books I'd read and reviewed, no one glowed like this. Some glittered in the light. Others had wings. No one was a freaking giant sun.

I truly enjoyed reading it, and I was completely caught up in it. The myth is cool! I am a big Star Trek nerd, and I love romance books. And I have a soft spot for the YA genre. But it still missed that certain something that makes me go gaga over a book. Maybe it is just the fact that this is the first book out of six (!) so it was slow....more

"E.T." was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the synopsis of this book. OK that's a lie. I thought it after I read the part about Daemon. The first thing I actually thought was "Hot damn! I gotta get me one of him!"

Take a gander over to the top of the screen, to the left the advertisement and you'll understand what I mean.

And so yeah, visions of a "lumpy little creature" are not the biggest turn on for a book, or anything for that matter, and it appears that Jennifer Armentro...more

Never in my life had I ever thought that aliens could be so sexy and hot. But boy, was I wrong! I am practically drooling and swooning over them right now. Oh Daemon baby... *sigh*

Jennifer Amerntrout really knows how to write a kick-ass story! Obsidian certainly did not disappoint me. I felt so giddy all throughout reading it, I was completely consumed and overcome. I don't think I've ever been so consumed by a book like this in a really long long time, and it has nothing to do with fact that I read this in one sitting but the fact that I didn't want to eat, answer the phone or tend to my kids. Good Cop, Bad Cop revision - March 2012

1. I only consider spoilers to be major plot reveals - some examples would be : a character death, who a girl chooses in a love triangle, or how a book ends. Random plot points do not count as spoilers to me, so please expect some in the review ahead.
2. Normally, I do not go into reviews looking to compare one book to another. The reason I was a bit more anal about comparisons for this book is because I have been burned before by another of this author's bo...more

When I was contacted by Entangled‘s publicist about reviewing Obsidian, I felt it prudent to warn him that paranormal teen romance is hit-or-miss for me. The genre’s not an automatic fail–I did enjoy Shiver, and Unearthly, and Rampant, and I’m always a sucker for early LJ Smith. But the writers of the aforementioned novels often critique the genre even as they’re writing in it, taking a careful, feminist approach to situations and characters amid all the...more

I loved this. Wow. If the sequel had been out, I'd have hit "buy" and kept reading. My favorite books are generally contemporary, so for a paranormal, fantasy or dystopian book to drag me in, it's usually grounded in contemporary romance, and the otherworldly aspects aren't complicated or overpowering. (That's all personal preference on my part, and is why I won't read many possibly great books in those genres - because I'm unlikely to enjoy them or judge them fairly for what they are.)

Wow, just WOW!

Okay- if you're reading this, either you've seen the glowing green eyes trying to drive you into a puddle of submission, you are a puddle of submission, or you've developed magically abilities that make you immune to the green-eyed, "holy trinity of hot boys" douche. I'm personally basking in the post-reading glow of Obsidian and Shadows firmly in Daemon's hot grasp. He can poke me anyday.

PURE YA GOLD!!!

I’ll be honest here, I didn’t think I was going to love a book about aliens. That’s why I put off starting this book for so long. Its not that I had anything against them, I just wasn’t sure if they were my ‘thing’, you know?? I was wrong. Horribly wrong. They are SO my thing. Well, at least Daemon is. Holy hotness. I always hope the hype surrounding a book is true, or at least, well-deserved. In this case, it isn't.

Katy's moved to a new town for senior year after her father's death. She's never been the newbie before and has no idea how to fit in. Enter Dee. As cute and energetic as her name suggests, Dee becomes fast friends with Katy. But close contact with Katy naturally results in close contact with her older brother, Daemon, and he hates Katy at first sight or so he pretends, but we all kn...more

Ever since I read and completely loved the prequel and the first book in Jennifer L. Armentrout's "Convenant" series, I just knew I had to read more by this author. That series is exciting and kickass and one of my favorite reads for 2011! As you can imagine, I desperately wanted to get my hands on Obsidian, which is the first book in JLA's newest series. The son of a bitch blew up my laptop.

Obsidian was a really nice surprise. I don't read a lot of YA, and when I do, I have to really, really be interested in the storyline. What drew me to this book was the whole alien element. It was so different and so fresh because of the way it was executed. Jennifer Armentrout has mad writing skills--I mean, MAD writing skills. Everything was so vivid. You could feel and see everything so clearly, in every single scene. The concept was unique, the plot was f...more

Ok, I have to gather my thoughts now, because this book has blown my mind! I absolutely loved it! This is my first book by Jennifer, but it definitely won't be my last. I will now stalk all of her work - beware! There is no wonder she has been getting rave reviews so far.
