WOW this was the perfect sequel to Slammed! 6 stars!! I LOVED IT!! An absolute MUST read! A butterflying amazing book!!!

This series is definitely going on my favorites pile. I finished reading it with my cheeks wet with happy tears. But boy is this book intense !! It had me laughing and crying, it made my heart race and I swear it stopped beating all together for several chapters. Just like with the first book, I love how absolutely none of the characters make stupid decisions or did stupid t...more

Point of Retreat picks up just after the Slammed epilogue. (If you haven't read Slammed... well, you shouldn't be reading reviews for the sequel! So go away and read Slammed, and then we'll talk, k?)

First up - this one is in Will's POV. I lurve getting the guy's POV, so I was all aboard for that. In the first book, Will and Layken lived through a tumultuous beginning to their relationship, which included not only forbidden love, but also the loss of the only remaining parent between the two of t...more

AMAZING!! And happy to finally be in the Butterflying club!

Point of Retreat, aptly named such for various reasons, is an incredible follow-up to Slammed! Where the first book moved me with remarkable inspiration, Point of Retreat touched me with its tender love story. The characters are again faced with difficult trials and obstacles to overcome...and I will say that the slams continue on, in every sense of the word!

This sequel makes a smooth transition into Will's perspective, and I truly enjo...more

What Glass thought about it...

I am going to be most wanted on the hate list of all fangirls out there because of what I'm about to write.

Point of Retreat was completely unnecessary book.

I believe that it would be better if Colleen Hoover left Will's and Lake's story as it was in Slammed. This was just using success she had with her first novel. Of course that everyone who read Slammed will want to see what's going to happen in Point of Retreat. (If I read once more "This was butterflying amazi...more

I've learned something about my heart.

It can break.
It can be ripped apart.
It can harden and freeze.
It can stop. Completely.
It can shatter into million of pieces.
It can explode.
It can die.

The only thing that made it start beating again?

The moment you opened your eyes.

**Warning: small spoiler alert**

I absolutely LOVED this book!!!

This book was so butterflying beautiful and amazing. It made me so butterflying happy!! It´s not like me to give a high rating to these kinds of books, since i love angst. I mean I really, really love it. But this book was just the cutest so what the hell, right!? And you know what?? When I started this the first time (yes, the first time) I read one chapter, thought "this isn´t for me", and then put it on hold. Thank God, I decided...more

Ohhhh boy I'm steamed, I'm really steamed here... I'm all worked up about how much I hated this book. Somebody talk me down from this rant I'm about to deliver... RANT ENSUING.

I am going to start by saying that I know Colleen Hoover is capable of writing very wonderful books. I loved Hopeless and Slammed so I had no reason to suspect that this book would be taking the fast train to suck-ville. However, I'm in suck-ville and I am hating it here.

Also, everyone else seems to LOVE this book. I mea...more

BUTTERFLYINGLY BEMAZING!

And all around my memories, you dance.

Colleen Hoover has done it again. She’s managed to steal my concentration captive and render me worthless until I read her story of Layken and Will in Point of Retreat from eCover to eCover. This book was the perfect sequel to Slammed that left me in that contemplative zone just thinking about the story and the characters and finding myself unwilling to let go. So much hatred for this book.

Perhaps I will write a more comprehensive explanation of my rage at a later date, but for now I will say this:

When Will and Lake's relationship is tested (in a totally contrived way I might add), Lake - after giving him the silent treatment for a few days - tells him that she just needs time to think about their relationship.
Now i get that if you're on the receiving end of that statement, that can sound pretty scary. But Will goes so over the line to stalkerific that...more

Ok, where do I start? Hmm, I NEED ANOTHER COLLEEN HOOVER BOOK NOW! There, that seems like an appropriate way to describe my feelings. After finishing Point of Retreat, I immediately came online to goodreads.com to check if there were any other books written by Colleen Hoover which I could read. Turns out, her next book is only coming out in 2013. What. The. Hell? I can't wait that long! I didn't want to believe it.

Well, this was butterflying good!

I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this more than Slammed. I didn't read this right away after I finished Slammed because when I read the blurb I thought it would be more dramatic and frustrating. But boy, was I wrong! Because it was actually a hell lot of fun! Although, yes, there were those stressing and dramatic parts, but I also did get a lot of laughs in this one. Which I wasn't really expecting at all. I was really glad I didn't put off this book for...more

After the drama that Slammed offered, I thought that something nice and easy was what would be in store for the two of them. But if anything things just got a tad bit more complicated. And though there were a couple of epically romantic moments in this on, I wasn’t moved by the same as I’d usually be. Why, though?

Sure, the poem reading and the suck and sweet moments elicited from me a couple of ‘Aaws,’ but nothing more really. Have all those dark moody reads rendered me jaded? I don’t think so....more

I loved this book. I love the characters. The story is not as strong as book 1 but nevertheless, it STILL made me cry. I loved the end. Please, Ms. Hoover, keep writing, you had me at page 1.

This is the second installment to Colleen Hoover's book Slammed. I couldn't wait to dive into it - I couldn't get enough of Lake and Will and I wanted to read what was in store for them in this second book. I have to admit that while the story was still good and the message still the same, I didn't like this part of the story as much as I liked Slammed. It felt too contrived at times and the drama (especially surrounding whenever Lake and Will would get together) got to be a bit much. I realize...more

It was BUTTERFLYING fantastic! I loved the new poetry slams in this book. I loved Will's swoon worthy slam to Lake called Because of You. I loved Kiersten's powerful slam that helps her to stand up to school bullies. I loved Caulder's heart warming slam to his brother Will. I love how Lake, Will, Kel and Caulder make a family unit and how they adopt in Gavin, Eddie, Sherry and Kiersten, proof that blood doesn't always make up family. And what a beautiful family they all make up together. I LOVED...more

BUTTERFLYING AWESOME!!!

God! I can’t remember how much I laughed, swooned, cried. I already fell in love with this story in the first book, but now I think I fell hard, farther than I expected!

Everything is perfect. It’s Will’s POV.. Well, Double Perfect!

Let’s talk about the story. The mere simplicity of it is like a breath of fresh air. I love that it talks of the realities relationships go through. The trust issues, exes, and the like. I found so many scenes hilarious especially when they’re w...more

I wish there was a way to give this book more stars ... but there would never be enough. There aren't enough stars to truly thank the author for each insightful star that was shared in this book. I have to echo everyone in saying this truly was the perfect follow up to Slammed.

Point of Retreat is the follow-up novel to Slammed. Point of Retreat is narrated by Will, giving us a much deeper connection to him and a chance to view Lake in an entirely new way.

*Contains spoilers for Slammed!*

Point of Retreat takes place about a year after Slammed. Lake's mother has passed away. Lake and Will are happily still together and they're both working hard to raise Kel and Caulder. The heartache, trials, and tribulations t...more

My $0.02

I’ve seriously been mulling over this review all day. I honestly don’t know what else to say besides it was amazing and if you don’t read it, you’ll be missing out on a breathtaking, one of a kind read. But then I don’t feel like that would do the book any justice, whatsoever, so bear with me as I try my best to gather coherent thoughts and express why Point of Retreat is a book that will be hard to forget.

I'm always excited for a sequel, but I'm typically prepared to not love it quite as much as the first book that drew me in in the first place. I read Slammed first, and was so blown away by how much I loved the story, that I was simply just anxious to see where life was headed for Lake and Will. I was not expecting to LOVE Point of Retreat as much, if not more, then the first book. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about POR being written from Will's point of view... I loved Lake's perspective...more

“Butterfly.
What a beautiful word
What a delicate creature.
Delicate like the cruel words that flow right out of your mouths and the food that flies right out of your hands…
Does it make you feel better?
Does it make you feel good ?
Does picking on a girl make you more of a man?
Well, I’m standing up for myself
Like I should have done before
I’m not putting up with your Butterfly anymore."
(Kiersten slides the sack off her wrist and opens it, pulling out a handful of hand-made butterflies. She takes the microphone out of the stand and begins walking down the stairs as she continues speaking.)
“I’d like to extend to others what others have extended to me.”
(She walks up to Mrs. Brill first and holds out a butterfly)
“Butterfly you, Mrs. Brill.”
(Mrs. Brill smiles at her and takes the butterfly out of her hands. Lake laughs out loud and I have to nudge her to get her to be quiet. Kiersten walks around the room, passing out butterflies to several of the students, including the three from the lunchroom.)
“Butterfly you, Mark.
Butterfly you, Brendan.
Butterfly you, Colby.”
(When she finishes passing out the butterflies, she walks back onto the stage and places the microphone back into the stand.)
“I have one thing to say to you
And I’m not referring to the bullies
Or the ones they pursue.
I’m referring to those of you that just stand by
The ones who don’t take up for those of us that cry
Those of you who just…turn a blind eye.
After all it’s not you it’s happening to
You aren’t the one being bullied
And you aren’t the one being rude
It isn’t your hand that’s throwing the food
But…it is your mouth not speaking up
It is your feet not taking a stand
It is your arm not lending a hand
It is your heart
Not giving a damn.
So take up for yourself
Take up for your friends
I challenge you to be someone
Who doesn’t give in.
Don’t give in.
Don’t let them win.”
