Gripping my chest is the only way to hold myself together or what’s left of me will fall out. The past week has enlightened me on one thing-I don’t care.
Megan, Mobster’s Girl
I didn’t even hesitate. I took two strides and blasted him in the face with my fist. He was ready for it this time-unlike in church. He tried to hit me back but I ducked and smashed him again.

I really tried with this one, because it has so many really good reviews. Only one mentions "minor" editing problems. Minor? Are you kidding me?

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that this book has been re-edited. So I am going to stop reading now, and wait til I get the "edited" version. Although it seriously pisses me off that once again, paying customers are being used as free editing for authors who can't be bothered or don't want to pay a real editor.

Reading edited version now, and t...more

I finished Mobster's Girl last night... It was so difficult to put it down, honestly. I had to because it was Father's Day and I felt like my dad and husband probably needed my nose OUT OF a book for a little while, but it was painful for me... In spite of having to forcibly put it down for hours yesterday (which about killed me), I still ended up reading the whole book in one day, reading late into the night. At any rate, while I don't normally read YA or mobster-type stories, I really loved it...more

Mobster's Girl by Amy Rachiele

So this is the first book I’ve read by Amy Rachiele, her writing was easy to read, plot and character development was well written, and the story flowed really well. I picked up this book this afternoon and finished it in one sitting with a few cups of coffee.

Mobster’s Girl is about a young woman name Megan who all the sudden notices Antonio is looking at her. Antonio is tall dark and handsome and a bit dangerous young, he is also from a very well off and powerful...more

I really, really, really liked this story!
I loved Antonio and Megan! Ok I really LOOOVED Antonio! He's mob boss's son, and he's so hot and bad and so deliciously alpha male! He is crazy about sweet and innocent Megan (kinda Travis from BD crazy), the only girl he's forbidden to touch. I was beaming when they were together, they were so perfect for each other. I also loved the mafia element, although I sometimes had this feeling that I'm watching L.DiCaprio and C.Danes in "Romeo & Juliet" but...more

A few weeks ago I saw a review for this book and knew I needed to read this book. So, when I saw that the author was offering the second book, I jumped at the possibility. I have the second book, but since its a continuation of the first, I had to read the first before.

Yesterday I was at work for 12 hours, and was exhausted. I figured I would start this book and fall asleep a few pages through. Nope, that didn't happen. Three hours later, I was still awake and completely finished it. I could not...more

I really enjoyed this book. I only wish it had been a bit longer. It seemed that just when things started getting exciting, there was the end. Although the characters might be a bit cliché (shy, pretty 'good girl' versus handsome 'bad boy'), it works for the story. I love Megan and Antonio and the circumstances surrounding their relationship. They've known of each other their entire lives but have been kept at a distance.

This is a classic story of star-crossed lovers, which I immensely enjoyed....more

THOUGHTS

This is a young adult story that I would recommend to a mature audience. This story contains a blend of a mob feel from a younger generation. Antonio, is following in his father's footstep as his father is a mob boss. Antonio is a regular teen, depending on the day of the week and what jobs he is running for his father. As young as Antonio is, he is feared by his fellow teenagers and classmates. The one person, he doesn't w...more

Just my thoughts...

I loved Tonio, the hero. Why? Cos he is gorgeous and talented and flat out top dog alpha male, he's the mob boss's son (in EVERY sense of the word!! be warned!) They call him lady-killer for a reason - although he isnt a man-ho, he makes smoking look sexyyyyyy, he is fixated on Megan, the heroine, the only gentling influence in his life. (He reminds me so much of Travis from Beautiful Disaster)

Lotsa lustful thoughts but no explicit scenes. The violence though, is typical of my...more

I’m totally and completely in love with this story and Antonio obviously.

”If you are going to avoid anyone in this town, avoid Antonio Delisi, Jr., the Mob boss’s son”.

Antonio:

”My mom says, ‘he’s got the devil living in him.’ She may be right because seeing him right now; he looks nothing like an angel”.

Megan:

Good read but could have been great…

Mobster’s Girl is a YA Romance written by Amy Rachiele. I read this as a R2R with We ♥ YA Books! As always, a special thank you to the mods and author for allowing me to participate.

The Review:
I liked this book. It was a sweet story about two opposites coming together only to find out they aren't so different after all. I really liked both Megan and Antonio. Megan was sweet and shy but also stern and formidable. Antonio was the quintessential mobste...more

I would like to thank the author for giving me this book for an honest review. That being said: I loved it!! I wasn't too sure what I would think or feel, but as soon as I started I couldn't put it down.

This story is about Megan and Antonio. They both live in Jersey and have been told they are off limits to each other since they were kids. But secretly, they have had crushes on each other forever. The beginning felt a little like Romeo and Juliet. They are now 18, and Antonio is having a hard ti...more

There was something so compelling about this book but I can't for the life of me say what it was.
It wasn't the best written, I was confused at times as to what time era it was supposed to be set in as some things that happened & were said seemed like the book was set in the 30/40's but then the H says something that reminds you that you are firmly planted in the now.
I read the book in one sitting as it is quite short but even at that it was late and I had to get up for work early the next mo...more

I picked this one up on a whim and couldn't put it down! Despite a few flaws (i.e. minor editing errors and a predictable (for me at least) plot reveal), Mobster's Girl might very well be up there with my fav 2012 reads. I'm floored!! The characters were amazingly drawn out...the main characters as well as the secondary. The storyline switches POV between the two main characters, Megan and Tonio...and the voice of each character is spot on. I'm not usually one to appreciate inner monologue,...more

First I must say from the cover I had no idea this was a young adult read. In fact if I would have known I would have probably read the book sooner rather than later. The cover does tell some of the story but I think it pushes readers away thinking they already know this particular story. Antonio is supposed to be 18 and the character on the cover looks 30!
The characters and romance are young the backstory pretty adult. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and its ability to entertain me. The...more

I loved this book it was an amazing read I could not put it down I finally finished it at 3 am lol.

I enjoyed the fact that it was written in both perspectives of the main characters it helps you to get a feel for them. I loved all the characters in this book even the secondary ones.

I enjoyed following Megan and Antonio's love story. It was a sweet story as these characters were made for each other and they had such chemistry.

I kind of liked it.

This book felt more like a prelude of the actual story more than anything.

Things were a little rushed, seeing as some of them were left to be truly answered in the next book.

I think that their relationship devoloped too fast... One minute she was scared shitless of him, and in the next, she loved him. I was like: "Whaaaaat?".

I couldn't really have a conection with the story, but I saw this book's potential. It has great characters and a very nice, original plot.

I absolutely love this book. I love how mature the characters are and the sexiness between Antonio and Megan. I had always wanted a book with young adults in which the characters are not PG/PG13, we all know that kids nowadays are more R-rated than adults. This book was refreshing and keep your attention. I think the ending was kinda rush but there is a bk 2 so I did not mind as much. Thank you Ms. Rachiele for the wonderful story, can't wait to see what you come up with next.

4.5 stars WOW, great bk. Thanks to MelissaB over on Amazon for this rec. Antonio is intense! Jealous, possesive, protective - but what else to expect...he's the son of a mobster. A big WHOA moment too that was totally unexpected. Nice drama/suspense element. Only negative is that the story continues. Not really a cliff hanger ending but enough that left me anxious for the next one - Awakening the Mobster. Can't wait!

Where do we draw the line on love? Just what would you be willing to overlook for the one you love? Megan and Antonio will test that limit in this debuting novel. As different as characters can be, these two awesome characters will find a light where on obstacles lie. Antonio the son of a Mobster is used to the life of violence and mayhem. Megan knows that Mob business is dirty, but she has always steered clear of anything that would bring herself attention. With the direct declaration from her...more

I was given this book free to read and then immediately had to buy book two, which is the best recommendation I can give for Megan and Tonio’s story. I had to know what happened next.

It is one of those love/hate idiosyncrasies. I love getting free books (honestly who on this site doesn’t) but hate it when I get hooked on the story and have to go buy all of the authors other books. As a librarian it is the best argument to authors that libraries are their best marketing tool. I can’t tell you th...more

Wow! I read this book in just a few short hours tonight. It totally sucked me in! I loved Megan and Antonio and their relationship. I received this book for free from the author and I am so thankful. Based on the description, it didn't really sound like something I normally like, but I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. I loved the story.

The "twist" seemed a little predictable, but it wasn't totally obvious. I'm sad I can't recommend this book to my middle school's librarian because of...more

Received this book through the ARR program on Goodreads. This book was a surprisingly good read. The things I liked most about this book were the main characters. They were all likeable and easy to visualize. I also liked that it was a quick read with enough action to keep it moving and once I started I didn't want to put it down. There were a couple of things I did not like such as the poor editing. I felt like there were a lot of punctuation issues and grammatical errors. I also thought it was...more

I absolutely loved this story! The characters are very well developed and the mobster lifestyle and New Jersey Italian culture is deeply ingrained in this heartfelt story of forbidden love. This book is fast-paced and action packed. It barely left me time to catch my breath because once I started it, I couldn't put it down!

I loved how the book was written from each person's POV. It allowed me to fully understand the reason behind the character's actions and their love for one another.

This was a YA book but with definite adult themes within it - the violence for a start. It was pretty graphic with the violence and I wouldn't have expected it so much in a book for young adults perhaps.

It was a very easy read, but the grammar and spelling mistakes spoiled it slightly. Being brought up by a teacher these are things I appreciate, and it kind of jumps out at me when reading a book.

The book was a bit on the short side for me. It seemed to skip a lot of the romancing which I would h...more

I received this book for free to give an honest review.

AMAZING! I have never read an Italian book before and I found myself at times trying to read with an Italian accent. I would have to catch myself. I loved reading Megan and Antonio's story and what Antonio did for his father. Mobster's Girl is filled with some action not a lot, a lot of little teenage love, friendship, and drama. I was hooked from the first page, and now I want to read book two for sure as I want to know what else is going t...more

When I started reading this book I had just finished a particularly heavy story and thank Amy Rachiele for my gifted copy as I needed the escapism that a young adult romance offers.
I found that the story of 'Mobster's Girl' was based heavily on stereotypes, which I found humorous but it did not remove from my enjoyment of the book.
Megan is an Irish girl who lives in an American-Italian neighbourhood, and is in a minority at school. However, she manages to attract the attention of the Italian boy...more

I didn't know at first that the main characters are going to be YA, like still be in senior year. But it didn't take away my delight in following the budding sweet attraction between Megan and Antonio. I love how Tonio adored Megan from afar before he finally had the courage to speak to her properly and declare his intention to her despite the clear warning from his mobster boss dad to stay away from Megan. It such a contrast of him doing his mobster errands and then there is a side of him that...more
