What a great little graphic novel! I loved the art work and the sentiment behind it. It was very quiet but also funny- when the painter and the hunter are talking their language makes you forget they are supposed to be "cavemen" - they sound like you and me! The plot is basic - a cavemen painter trying to find inspiration , and even when he does so it is unapproved by the village. But, I loved the ending and the really basic but complete drawings. Possibly the greatest most fantastic thing ever! Originally a two week strip in the Guardian - I can see how people used to get hooked waiting for the next Dickens episode to come out.

I read it every few days. Tom Gauld is a master at completely changing the meaning of a body shape with minimal effort. Genius.

Another Gauld 'toon in a similar vein is 'Guardians of the Kingdom' but that doesn't seem to be on the database yet.

I'm not sure what to call this, but it is short and amusing and lets you feel, very much so, how folks back in the (insert primitive material) Age might've suffered from the same complaints we do today...like, say, artists' block.

Recommends it for: minimalist comic collectors

A new favorite artist - he illustrates a weekly strip for the Guardian. So often, comic = depressive, navel gazing autobiography. Thankfully, Gauld does not follow this formula.
