This series of books is meant for a younger reader. The diary excerpts are real. The historical information presented is very good and written in a way that a younger reader would understand and find interesting. It is interesting to "hear" history from the perspective of a young person who was actually there.

Actual excerpts from Carrie Berry's diary, complete with spelling and grammar differences. Helped to make this era of history a little more realistic for my boys. Also has sidebars with good information.

A good first-hand account of life during the Civil War. Could easily be paired with historical fiction based on the Civil War.

An excellent way to introduce young readers to Civil War history. Carrie writes about her experiences during the siege of Atlanta by Federal troops in 1864.
