For years Courtland Becket had denied himself the only woman who stirred his blood, yet he could no longer pretend to ignore the lovely Cassandra. For gone was the girl he had once teased-replaced by a fully grown woman, adamant that they act on their long-denied feelings. It was time for the self-appointed protector of all things Becket to allow himself a taste of the for...more

First, I have to say that I wasn't fond of the Court/Cassandra match, and found it to be a bit creepy. Not only because of the huge age difference, but because of the brother/sister connection, AND the fact that Court so obviously had a huge crush on Cassandra's mother, whom it's mentioned before that Cassandra looks exactly like. Perhaps die-hard fans of this series find the match to be very romantic. I just didn't. The girl is eighteen and had always had a childish crush on Court, and yet I'm...more

I just love Courtland. And though Callie has been a bit grating through the whole series it was great to see them finally act on the feelings they have both had for years. That was a great childhood love story! Great ending and now Kasy Michaels is going to be starting a new book on the search for the Empress with the modern day Beckets. How fun! I am not sure if is going to be a series or not. But that looks to be a great plot, especially seeing what similarities these Beckets have to the old o...more

Courtland Becket had been abused at the hands of his biological father when Ainsley Becket rescued and "adopted" him, raising him, from that day forward, as his own. Afraid to trust that Ainsley wouldn't abuse him as well, Courtland didn't/wouldn't speak. That is until Isabella, Ainsley's wife, entered the picture. Courtland loved Isabella and spent as much time with her as possible. He opened his heart - and his mouth - for her. On the day that Isabella died, Court promised to always protect Ca...more

Booklist says: "As loyal readers of Michaels’ long-running series know, the Becket family has lived peacefully in England for many years while preparing for the final confrontation with their enemy, Edmund Beales. Edmund was Ainsley Becket’s former privateer partner in the Caribbean. When Ainsley wanted to return to England, Edmund killed Ainsley’s wife and most of his crew, leaving Ainsley with a hodgepodge group of adopted children and his own infant daughter, Callie. The Beckets know that soo...more

An action-packed ending to a 7-book series that focuses on a couple that was a little problematical for me.
Courtland Becket is adopted; he had a terrible crush on his adopted mom, and basically took over the care of her child, Cassandra, when she was killed.
He's in his 30s; Cassandra is 18. He loves his sister, and she loves him, too, but as a "man" she says.
Court keeps her at arms' length, but it's hard when she won't let up, his sisters are conspiring to get them together, and his brothers are...more

excellent series if you enjoy historical romance!

Don't read this one until you have read all the other books in the series. In fact, read the series in order for best effect. This is the finale which ends the series, which I enjoyed. This book is better than Reckless Beauty and Return of the Prodigal and as good as if not better than the others in the series.

The story has twists and turns. It's not just a romance but also an andventure. The sex scenes are sensual which makes this book suitable to be enjoyed while in public (if you have trouble...more

Boas Leituras ;)

An action-packed conclusion to an entertaining series, though once again the central romance seems more like a sidenote to the over-reaching plot arc. The true protagonist of the series is Ainsley Becket - the story is his, and the romances of his children serve only to support it. Pity, then, that he doesn't get more time center stage.

This was a great way to finish and bring everything full circle. I was hoping that Courtland and Callie would get together. Everything was finally revealed, solved, and the world moved on. I'm almost sad to see this series end, but it was a very fulfilling ending.

I enjoyed the final book of the Becket's of Romney Marsh. Happy endings for all the Becket's and a few twists and turns in the plot. An entertaining read for the final book in the series.

4-1/2 *. Fabulous ending to the series. I wonder if at some point we'll see another book with a continuation of the "Empress". I hope so.

Kasey Michaels is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 100 books (she doesn't count them). Kasey has received three coveted Starred Reviews from Publishers Weekly, two for the historical romances, THE SECRETS OF THE HEART and THE BUTLER DID IT, and a third for contemporary romance LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY (that shows diversity, you see). She is a recipient of the RITA, a W...more
