With the newly minted leader of the Catholic Church choosing to name himself after Saint Francis of Assisi, this book could be perfect if you have kids with questions.

The biographical part here covers the basics of Francis' life, without dumbing it down for children. We hear how Francis was born to a wealthy merchant, his early embracing of poverty, and various spiritual transformations along his path. Naturally, we are there when Fr...more

Already this week we were reading The Song of Francis and I know from our future reading list that the author/illustrator Demi is one to look for, so I was eager when I saw a new Saint Francis of Assisi by Demi. This is my first experience with Demi and I can understand why so many people will recommend the artwork in these picture books. The colors are absolutely beautiful and the pages of this book are filled with details from the life as a boy through manhood and into death with the well know...more

I will read any of these spiritual biographies in pictures by Demi. Her illustrations of Francis's attire before his conversion use colorful textures and representations of textiles, well suited to the son of a colorful textile merchant and clothes vendor. The prayers of St. Francis make a beautiful set of end papers to the life story. Highly recommended.

Downloaded this because I'd visited Assisi last year and was fascinated by the stories of Saint Francis. This is beautifully illustrated and intended to be read to children, but adults will also enjoy it. Perfect for this season of Lent.

Well told and uplifting. Demi's artwork is breathtaking. She has once again done a magnificent job of making an important historical figure accessible and memorable for young readers.

Demi has shared the life of Saint Francis in such a way that children will be able to relate to. The illustrations make this a great book to sit down with a child and share. Choosing to be poor is different from being poor but a child will be able to see how - with God's grace - one can make the best of a situation. I believe even small children can be inspired by Saint Francis. Children especially are going to like the part about the wolf coming into town.

Really loved this, found it extremely informative, and the prayers at the beginning were the best part- I definitely want a copy for my some-day kiddos.
