This first book in a planned trilogy is a somewhat different take on vampire lore than I’ve read before. In this world there are born vampires who live more like humans and made vampires, who are the ones that cannot go out in the sun or eat human food. The made vampires also differ from each other, sometimes losing part of their human self, even to the extent of becoming mindless killing Drones, but it is not until after their transition that the maker knows what they get. Set in the midst of a ...more

A review for Hearts on Fire Reviews

Blood Ties is a love story between Thomas a natural born Vampire Prince and Daniel a human he meets in a bar. It’s a simple story, one that I enjoyed reading but I did wish there was more to it. There is nothing new in Blood Ties, nothing that doesn’t happen in a lot of other vampire novels. This story has some drama but it’s very mild and there are some action scenes with a war between two Vampire families but that is more of a side story rather than a major

Daniel-”You came.” Thomas-”Not yet. But I soon will. Gonna fuck you, come in your ass, make you come then maybe do it another couple of times until we’re both satisfied. Sound good to you?”

Thomas Vanderguard is sitting by the side of his lover Daniel Alexander waiting for him to wake up from his three day sleep after Thomas converted him from human to vampire. As he waits, he finds himself looking

An enjoyable introduction in what seems to be a promising series.

Thomas has been alone and mourning the loss of his lover, Jacob, for far too long. His family has been at war with a rival family for centuries and is always under attack from their drones. He isn't willing to risk losing someone else he loves to them.

In this world there are born vamps and made vamps. Born vamps are more like humans than the made ones. The made vampires can't eat food or go out in the sun. There's also no tellin

This is one of the best vampire books I have read in a while. It was not your usual coven where there is a "maker" but, an actual family with its quirks and insecurities. What captivated was the family dynamic between Thomas and the rest of their family and the way the author made their issues so real that you could often relate.

It is not easy to find love and to loose that person tragically. Thomas not only had to endure that; he also lived with the guilt of what could he have done different t

Review written for MM Good Book Reviews

Thomas has refused to love for two hundred years. The loss of his lover, Jacob, to the Drones scarred him deeply and he hasn't been able to give his heart again. Since then Thomas has swore to destroy the Drones who want to wipe out his family, the Royal vampire family, but one night his world is turned on end when he meets Daniel. Daniel won't take no for an answer and Daniel stumbles into Thomas' world of danger, but Daniel knows what he w

Blood Ties is the first book in The Vanderguard Vampires series by Lavinia Lewis. I've never read any of her books before but I liked the cover, found the blurb interesting so I thought I would take a change.

Of the two main characters, Daniel was my favorite. I liked his easy going side mixed in with strong freak in the sheets. It made he come off as cute and hot. Thomas on the other hand I had moments of wanting to shake him. I get that his lover had been killer eons ago, but his yes/no, I can

What a great start to a series, I really enjoyed several things about this book and a couple of things I really didn’t like. One thing that was sort of new to me was we started with a few pages from the end of the book, and then we went back a year and got the back story of Thomas and Daniel. At first I liked this, then I got worried, as the story continued and pages kept going by that the end would be rushed. But actually it all fit nicely together. How we got the story of the family, the feud ...more

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I Dig Good Books.

Alone since his blood-bonded mate died 200 years ago, Thomas is totally floored, scared even, of his reaction and attraction to Daniel. Daniel just wants Thomas.

But Thomas is a born vampire, a vampire Prince no less, and leads the war against the Drones, who are made vampires.

Can Daniel survive in Thomas's world, will Thomas even let him in?

Usually this bit comes at the end of my review, but since I finished it, its been on my mind. Is t

This is my first gay vampire read and I’m surprised that I liked the story. Thomas is hesitant to turn his newfound love Daniel into a vampire. Jacob, his fallen vampire lover is the main reason why he doesn’t want Daniel to turn. Jacob was his escort and the Drones eliminated him, thus Thomas was inflicted with pain and vengeance in the last two hundred years.

It’s been a long time since I last read a story involving gay main characters. I decided to forego with this paranormal story because I h

Received an ARC for honest review.

Where do I begin with this story. It took awhile for me to get into the story which is strange for me because I love paranormal and romance. As long as I can fall in love with the characters. At first I was having a hard time getting into the book because it seem to take for ever for us to see the relationship between Daniel and Thomas. Once it went back a year and to Danial's awakening the story gets good.

Now lets talk about the ending. WTF?!? So I see that t

It is always a challenge for authors to come up with a new take on vampires, but Lavinia Lewis has managed it. Her world includes born vampires and made vampires, with born vampires having several advantages, such as walking in the sun. However, born vampires need to find a mate with whom they can bond if they want to live beyond a few hundred years. Thomas, born a vampire prince, finds his second mate Daniel, but worries he too will die in the vampire war, as did his first mate. The sex between ...more

Wow!! this was the best book that I've read in a very long time. The story was amazing. The MC's were so well formed that I wanted to go back to read their stories in a prequel. Daniel and Thomas, what can I say. I'm in love with them both. This book has it all humor, action, love, anguish. She gutted me at one point. All I'll say is Connor!! This is the first book that I've read from Lavinia but it will not the last. I'm ready for book 2.

I didn't care for the writing, the story or the characters. More than anything I did not like that this book ended in a cliffhanger.

Lavinia discovered reading at an early age and could always be found with her nose in a book. She loved getting lost in a fantasy world even then. When her parents bought her a typewriter for Christmas at aged eleven, her fate was sealed. She spent hours dreaming up characters and creating stories. Not a lot has changed.

Lavinia is a Welsh Valley girl who has lived all over the UK. Today she lives
