Clara Sutton wants to see more of the country than Wyoming, where her pa and aunt have a ranch. So she hops a stage and runs away, intending to visit Boston. Her father sends his new foreman William Davies to bring her back. When she’s resistant (and lies to him), to her great chagrin, he spanks her, and that sets the tone for their relationship.

If you enjoy “spanking romances” you’ll find A Firm Husband to be classic for the genre: sexy, macho hero meets a wayward heroine who needs to be taken

I don't mind reading these types of stories where punishment is part of the relationship. As in most instances in these type of books it's spanking of the wife by the husband. Although the heroine in this is spanked by the hero before they're even a couple. In this particular story there are two couples and both men like to spank as punishment with their hand or belt, which I felt was too extreme and seemed more like abuse. What I also didn't like here was the women not only seemed immature but ...more

This is a well-written/crafted spanking romance. While there are many cowboy spanking stories out there, this one tweaked me in a way that others haven't. I really enjoyed all the spanking scenes-- I thought they were done "just right" -- not too harsh, not too wimpy, enough juicy details, dialog and eroticism around them to turn me on. I liked both the hero and heroine and the energy between them was loving.

This one wasn't for me. The scenes and character development were unbalanced and there was a great deal of telling and not showing. One moment there's a detailed spanking/sex scene and then a brief summary of a day or three. You get a description of Clara and William's hair and eye color, but everyone else is a human blank. I completely confused two male characters for a good six pages and had to go back to unscramble who was who.

Also as a BDSM spanking story, I was expecting a little balance i

This was a western romance with spankings that I enjoyed. I liked the hero, William Davies, who knew how to "punish" Clara Sutton when she lies or disobeys him. Clara encounters William when she runs away and wants to experience life outside her Father's ranch. She will soon get her punishment at his hands, spankings that are painful yet warming in other areas as she starts to develop feelings for him and vice versa. I enjoyed Clara's personality and how she was not afraid to speak her mind, ...more
The idea of spanking is a turn on to me, but so far I haven't found any spanking books that "do it" for me. The hero is always too overbearing and controlling with little concern for what the heroine wants from life. The heroine is often too bratty or plain abused. Plus, these stories are usually novellas, so I don't feel the love. I guess it's all about the spanking fetish, which must not be big enough with me to carry a romance. Personally I like a hero who changes over the course of a book ...more

Westerns aren't normally my thing, but I kept seeing good reviews for this so decided to give it a chance.

At first I was irritated because the heroine's family and the hero kept infantalizing the heroine, but the more I read, the more I saw the heroine make consistently, sometimes bizarrely, poor choices. I began to wonder if perhaps there was a reason for that. I wondered if the heroine's worldview was so small that she really didn't recognize the danger of her actions, then I wondered if the

William Davies is a firm husband in all the right ways. First, he's a strict disciplinarian who is fair but firm in handing out discipline to Clara when she misbehaves. Second, he's quite the cowboy lover for Clara, his eager fiancee/wife.

I enjoyed this book very much. Clara was likeable and I wanted HEA for her. Although I could understand her desire to get out and see the world, it was a foolish and potentially dangerous decision, for which a spanking was appropriate. Clara ends up going over

This is a very good historical story with a young lady who just can't seem to make good decisions. When she runs away from home things go from bad to worse. She ends up meeting William who just so happens to be her father's new foereman who she has been offfered to in marriage. She learns quickly that he wont put up with misbehavior of any kind and spanks heard whenever she does something wrong.

To imagine the lack of choices that Clara faced, I can only feel sympathy. After reading that, it was amazing how her feelings for William Davies could change her mind. I especially enjoyed how the Western story, complete with ranches, cattle rustling, and bad behavior from the men was as much in the story as the romance between Clara and William. I enjoyed the pages focused on William's friends who owned the general store.

Sue Lyndon's “A Firm Husband” is about a 20 year old girl in the Old West that is looking to expand her horizons and see more of the world. Knowing her family wouldn't approve, Clara Sutton decides that the best way to achieve her goal is to sneak out in the middle of the night. Four days into her trip, she locks eyes with a man she knows is no stranger. Not knowing that Mr. William Davies was sent to fetch her, Clara lies to him about her intended whereabouts and travel arrangements. Mr. Davies ...more

A very well written story! I confess I'm not normally into spanking stories; however, I enjoyed this read. Clara wanted to escape her small town, ranching life in Wyoming and head east to the city of Philadelphia. Given the times, however, it isn't safe for women to travel alone. Her exodus out of Wyoming is interrupted by Mr. William Davies, an educated man who demands obedience. Clara's intial feelings for William are mixed, but she quickly warms to him despite the spankings he delivers. ...more

"I liked the overall story though I would have liked to see Clara take a little longer to just agree to marry William. I was hoping he had been sent to find her to propose marriage but it was a little unbelievable. I realize in that time period marriages were arranged but she goes from, ""grrr I hate him"" to ""let's get married"" from one spanking? Also felt like the story was a bit rushed. I would have liked to see another scene or two with her 'ex' as well as some more insight into what ...more

This was a great historical spanking novel. Mr. Davies is my kind of man. I love how in charge he was. He knew just how to handle a wayward lass! The spanking scenes were hot! There was just the right touch of sweet romance too.
