“We were offered the 8th edition of Campbell’s Biology,” My editor said to me. “I observed that there are many changes compared to the last edition we published – the 5th. I decided to take the license of the 8th edition. Would you like to translate it?”

I got involved with Campbell’s Biology first as a student, and later as a freelancer student working as a proofreader for the Indonesian publisher of the book. The sales of the book, which is probably the most author...more

I'm taking AP Biology in school and every week we have to read and take notes on a chapter or two. I also reread some of th chapters to study for the AP test. The textbook provides you with a lot of infomation- it is very compacted. This book has like 1229, so I hope take this would count as three books or more.

Well, mine is actually not this one. I got the 1998 version, the 4th edition I believe, that I bought for an extremely cheap amount in the now-extinct used book marketplace in Jakarta. Even though the table of contents is messed up (there are like 200 pages between them--a reject it must have been, hence the price), there's only black and white so some of the micrographs are kind of hard to see (it's the international student edition), and the quality of the paper is rather poor, it's still very...more

This is a wonderful biology text. I tutored biology students using this text. Concepts are clearly stated and explained. The diagrams/charts illustrate and help to further explain concepts.

I approached this text, not as a textbook, but more as a novel and it astonished me. There is a lot of information in here that is completely fascinating, and the author takes the extra step (that most creative authors don't) of connecting the writings to the nature of man. Furthermore the section on ecology was basically a better informed version of "an inconvenient truth"...to many extents. At 1200 pages i don't recommend the whole thing, but certainly the section on evolution and ec...more

This was without a doubt the greatest textbook I've ever used. Every textbook I have used since has been compared to it and none have lived up to the task. Also, every biology class I have had since has illegally used drawings from this book to help teach main concepts.

I forgot what edition it is, but I've read Campbell "Biology" since my junior high school day.My curiosity on the thickest book in my father library is the only reason why i read this book at the first place.
But after that...
I was instantly astonished with the colorful content!! Seeing those bacteria &viruses under electron microscope give me some excitement! And since then I'm instantly falling in love with biology!!

This is the biggest and longest textbook i have ever read! But it's one of the most interesting textbook out there. AP Biology! There are certain chapters that are hard to understand, while others are easy to comprehend.

The textbook is nicely organized and fill out pretty pictures!
Read it if you are interested in Biology or in an AP biology. It's a long read.

This is my textbook for my Biology of the Cell class at CSUSB and it is HUGE!!! But I will be using it for 3 different classes so I guess that it's alright. But man I am gonna hate carrying it around, if I even bother to do that.

This is the greatest Biology book that I can imagine existing with the greatest diagrams and an amazing method of teaching the student everything about basic Biology with no clarification needed from the Professor.

Personally I'm a 2nd edition hardcover man myself - the custom PCC paperback edition is a bit breezy and makes a lousy doorstop.

i'm not sure the biology/science jokes, puns and world plays are really necessary in this book.

also, this book is very colorful.

that's all the love i have for this book.
