Okay, I haven't read Avalon High... and... I guess maybe you kind of need to in order to fully appreciate this book. It gives a brief overview of the premise in the first chapter - at Avalon High, many of the students are possibly reincarnations of Arthurian characters. Now, it's theorized that in order for Elaine's boyfriend, football player/Arthur, to save the world, he must learn who he is and accept it. The only problem is that Elaine can't think of how to convince him that this crazy prophe...more

The sequel to one of Meg Cabot's previous books Avalon High takes on a different form than most of her sequels: it is being printed as a three-volume manga. While there has been some controversy from fans over if this was a good idea or not, the manga is still just as good as any novel sequel. Most of the first volume is a recap of the entire Avalon High book, but focusing more on the ending. The real story starts in Chapter 2, which begins with a beautiful two-page picture of Jennifer and Lance...more

GRAPHIC NOVEL CATEGORY

In this graphic novel sequel to Cabot's Avalon High, Ellie Harrison is struggling with the aftermath of the book's events. With Marco in an asylum, her boyfriend Will refusing to acknowledge his place as the reincarnated King Arthur despite Mr. Morton's (aka Merlin)insistence, and Will's ex-girlfriend Jennifer acting like their best friends, Ellie is having a rather hard time. But then Mr. Morton drops a bomb - according to the Merlin Prophecy, if Will doesn't accept his de...more

Chapter one starts with what feels like a basic run down on what must be the plot of the novel. We now meet up with Ellie who is dating Will, who happens to be the reincarnation of Prince Arthur or at least that is what Mr. Morton (otherwise known as Merlin) believes. All the other kids in Ellie's group seem to have counterparts from the Arthurian Legend as well and the Prophecy says that King Arthur will return to save the world if Will truly believes he is that reincarnation. A book that sound...more

Avalon High: Coronation Volume I: The Merlin Prophecy
Created and Written by Meg Cabot, Illustrated by Jinky Coronado

I grew up reading comics. I read them as a child and I collected them as an adult. I currently own 2 huge storage boxes filled with classics such as Ghost Rider, The Incredible Hulk, She Hulk, Wolverine, Sandman, Watchmen and more. For an MLS class, I needed to read two graphic novels. I thought to myself, ok, I can do this! I love comics, I love novels, what’s better than the two...more

Avalon High was a good book. Cabot’s tale of a new girl fitting in had a fresh supernatural twist weaved in. It was funny, intriguing and had all the makings of a fantastic sequel. But then Cabot had to go Manga…which was not necessarily a bad thing. While being quite a heathen where Manga is concerned, I was sufficiently intrigued to see the synergy of Meg Cabot’s writing and Jinky Coronado’s artwork.

Sadly, I felt a little let-down. The sequel was more like a flashback into Ellie and Will’s...more

This book is [Avalon High Coronation:Volume 1, The Merlin Prophecy] and the author is Meg Cabot. It is about this a high school girl named Ellie she is dateing this guy named Will. He is supposed to be like the reincarnation of King Arthur. She also the new girl at school but everyone seems to like her already. Well there is one girl who just does not seem to like Ellie it is this girl named Morgan. She is always doing something to poor Ellie.
Ellie is under alot of pressure and she does not kn...more

Sooo... I put this book on hold thinking it was the real book, and when it turned out to be the graphic novel I still decided to give it a shot.

I finished it in a couple of hours, and, in this case, that is NOT a good thing. It wasn't because it was so amazing, or because I loved it, it was simply 'cause I was bored and it was the only book I could find.

Frankly, I didn't like it. At all. I had seen the movie, and thought I'd give the book a shot, 'cause I loved the movie so much, but I just did...more

Avalon High, a 102 page novel by Meg Cabot, was a predictable story with little depth to its plot and little diversity or value. I didn’t not learn anything from this book, and the overall storyline I found to be indecently uneventful. What I did take from this, however little value, was of the different techniques used when it came to drawing graphic novel characters. I appreciated the way the artist drew female characters and I learned much in that sense, but when it came to male characters, I...more

A really dreadful adaptation of a YA novel by Meg Cabot into an original English-language manga. Mediocre from the art to the story to the character development. I slogged through all three volumes - because I had them checked out from the library and they were short - but I wouldn't recommend this manga to anyone. The premise is interesting enough - several teens discover that they are the reincarnation of key characters from the time of King Arthur and Avalon, from Arthur himself (embodied in...more

God this was a train wreck. The plot was so stilted, and the characters are not well-rounded at all, more like bad caricatures based on the worst cheap teen movie high-school stereotypes. The art was so bad that you couldn't keep the characters straight, since Will looks exactly like Marius just with larger eyes and Elle looks just like the Morgan LeFay bitchy character only with higher necklines. And Order of the Bear? What the hell kinda crappy name is that for a plot-device/secret society?

"The Merlin Prophecy" is a spin off graphic novel by Meg Cabot and illustrated by Jinky Coronado. The story itself is illustrated over 128 pages and continues Ellie's journey on trying to get Will to believe that he is the reincarnation of King Arthur. Personally, I disliked the whole book because the story was not as powerful as the first one and it had a lot of repetition from the original Avalon High. Meg Cabot books are also not made to be transformed into graphic novels because the graphics...more

I had higher hopes for this book but it was just too short. I finished it in twenty minutes and It just felt like a teaser for a longer work.

I really wish Meg Cabot had just written Avalon High:Coronation as a regular Novel instead of three magnas. Not that I don't like Comics but they are just too short.

In this addition to the Avalon High Universe Merlin charges Ellie with actually making Will believe that he is the reincarnation of King Arthur. She has until homecoming or the world will be p...more

Apparently this book is written originally in the traditional sense. Most people prefer the original to the graphic novel version. The drawings are entertaining and at times over-the -top explicit, but all-in-all, they draw in reluctant readers. It's your basic new girl in town adjusts quickly but rubs some people the wrong way; it just so happens she is The Lady of the Lake and her new football star boyfriend is really King Arthur reincarnated. I'm not making this up. This is a clever attempt t...more

After reading the first Avalon High book, this was pretty dissapointing. I was looking forward to a nice sequel, and after I breezed through the 1st one I was pretty excited to read the 2nd one. My excitement vanished when I found out that the second one would be published as a comic. This took me about 15minutes to read, and it was not nearly as good as the 1st one. I couldn't picture anything in my mind, do to the fact this book showed people in pictures talking. I would never again read a seq...more

If cheesy drawings and a totally pathetic plot are what the series is about then can I just say BLAH the characters were totally unlike the ones in the actual book (which I did kinda like) and the drawing was horrific. I have to say, I wasn't expecting much, but what it was was downright AWFUL ! Besides, they did a horrible rendition of the characters, instead of making Ellie plain (like how she's supposed to be) they made here into this super model type of person! I do not recommend this book...more

Avalon High was a joy to read, yet frustrating at the same time. This is a continuation of the novel of the same name by Meg Cabot. While I really enjoyed the novel, the first volume of the manga series is almost blah. The beginning was really well done. The back story was given, and all the characters were nicely introduced. Yet for the rest of the first volume, it just seemed a little too repetitive. Ellie is constantly trying to find ways to tell or convince Will of the prophecy. While I unde...more

This series is interesting because it actually starts with a book and then becomes a graphic novel. Avalon High introduces Ellie, Will, and the rest of the reincarnated bunch and then their stories continue in Manga form in Avalon High: Coronation. You can read the graphic novels without reading the novel first, but I think you'll get less out of them.

Coronation has the requisite super busty high school girls whose hair flows in that way that makes me think, "I wish I had Manga hair." Aside fro...more

I had never read a manga book. I think that's what they call picture books with the bubbles for the talking. It's like the style of probably the old superman and spiderman books. Not sure, just guessing. Being a picture book it was a quick read and still continued the storyline I loved in Avalon High. I wish it was a regular book, but oh well. I'll take what I can get. It was fun to branch out and try something new. It only takes 20-30 min. to read. I recommend it to any busy mom. But read the f...more

Fans of Meg Cabot are treated to a change in style by the author. Paired with artist Jinky Coronado, Ms. Cabot retells AVALON HIGH in a comic/manga style. Readers do not have to have read AVALON HIGH to follow this new version of the story.

Elle Harrison has just moved to Annapolis with her history buff parents. Almost immediately weird things start to happen. Her history teacher, Mr. Morton, explains it as the return of King Arthur and the Age of Enlighten...more

I was really excited to see Cabot venturing into new media. This didn't disappoint - really.

She's got an exciting - if not a bit predictable plot - but the real bonus for me was the artwork. It's drawn in comic book style, which makes it fun to read. It goes fast - and is technically only the first part of the whole story - frustrating because most of it is an explanation of what happened in Avalon High. The plot of this series focuses on the return of Marco (or Mordred, they might say) and a n...more

I am a fan of Meg Cabot's works overall. However, this just did not work in graphic novel form. Things seemed too perfect, going along too well or with things not quite explained properly. Also, having to give up a chapter in each volume to tell the same backstory over and over again got rather tedious.

If this had been written as a words-on-page-with-little-to-no-pictures type of novel, I think it may have been an interesting sequel. However, as a graphic novel, it left a lot to be desired.

Would give this 2 and 1/2 but I can't. This book was a tremendously easy read. It took me less than 20 minutes to read the whole thing. It's s pretty short story, many pages just being pictures. The first of the four chapters is a basic retelling of Avalon High. Then the story continues with Ellie being nominated for homecoming queen, along with her having nightmares about Marco and trying to help Will with his life. Can't wait for the next one, as this had a cliffhanger ending.

So this is the first manga out of the 3 that continues the story from Avalon High of Meg Cabot.

I was quite happy when I found them because I thought that Avalon High could have used a sequel or two hahaha and I like how she continued them through these.

Elle and Will are going on with their teenage lives along with their friends Jennifer and Lance. Things should be going great for them from now, but always the idea of the reincarnations will linger over them as Elle is now set with a mission from...more

Meg Cabot begins a graphic novel series based on her novel of the same title. Personally I felt it was a little too obvious and predictable. The first section is a recap of what you may have missed if you didn't read the novel, and the remaining chapters are a long dramatic set up for the next volume, without much real content at all. I don't think I'll pick up the next one.

It wasn't very good. I mean, I watched the movie, and I knew it wasn't going to be the same so I went into it knowing that. But still, even though the movie and anime/manga are way off, the movie was so much beter!

The plot is kind of slow and I don't enjoy the writing. Basically I didn't like it.
Abigail
Manga isn't really my thing, so that's part of it. But . . . it also was just such a small chunk of information, it hardly seemed worth reading. I usually like Meg Cabot and her brain-candy fun books, but this felt utterly insubstantial in just about every way.
