This book is so focused on presenting the mechanics of making a movie that the text feels mechanical. Here's the text from 3 spreads (6 pages) to give you a taste of what I mean:[return][return]"A script's the first thing that we'll need.[return]We'll choose a cast. I'll play the lead.[return]You assist, and I'll direct.[return]I'll need a chair and full respect.[return]We'll borrow tools and build a set.[return]There are scenes to paint and props to get."[return][return]I'm sure there...more

David Milgrim, Amelia Makes a Movie (Putnam, 2008)

Cute little tale, in verse, instructing kids on the steps required to make one's own videos. In the jacket copy, Milgrim states, “We live in an age of filmmaking....The tools of movie making are now so widely available, they are even within the reach of kids.” While this is certainly not a replacement for instructional books and the like, it has a sense of enthusiasm and inspiration that would make an excellent complement to dry manua...more

In the context of a bored girl and boy looking for something to do, this book explains the elements that go into making a movie. With cameras and software becoming easier and easier to use, children can now make their own movies. This would be great to share with kids during this year's Be Creative @ Your Library summer reading program.

This story is about a little girl who decides to make a movie. She writes, act, direct, edit, and does the scenery, with the help from her brother. She tries to control everything but her brother steps up in the process. This story is good for students to use their imagination. See what kind of stories they can come up with.

Interesting tale, complete with sibling rivalry/disagreements. Cute illustrations and it's filled with movie jargon.
