My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This novel was nothing like I thought it would be and yet I absolutely adored it.

The characters were cute and I loved readinga bout them. Tanya, Anton, and Johno were undeniably intriguing. I loved that Overton allowed us to delve into each of their heads.

The premise of the novel was also intriguing. Andon and Johno pull up a bottle that allows any dream to come true. That should be perfect, right? But they are about to find that you...more

What would you do if your every wish could be granted? It sounds pretty awesome, right? Find a bottle with a poem inside and the next thing you know, all your wishes are coming true. Well, turns out wishing is a bit more tricky than you might think.

I'm always up for a beach setting in a book. It's like taking me instantly to my happy place. The idea of finding a message in a bottle that grants wishes is cool. I love how the characters realize that wishing for things effects other people and coul...more

When I read the prologue, I really had a sense that this might be a great book. The main character, Tanya, is a Christian, and it was nice to see her praying right off the bat. Unfortunately, this was not to be.

Once I began the story proper, I was pretty disappointed. The only character I found myself liking was Tanya. Her surfer friends did not impress me, and no one else really did in the book. If the book had concentrated more on Tanya, perhaps I would have enjoyed the book more.

To the book's...more

This is a pretty spiritual book. I normally don’t tend to read fiction that is spiritual but I took a chance in the case of Last Wish of Summer and it paid off. Firstly although it does have some pretty heavy spiritual overtones, it’s mostly the main character, Tanya, that is religious and speaks to God. However it isn’t throughout the entire book. Tanya is just lost and looking for a way to not loose her faith, begging God to help her move along with her life after the sudden deaths of her pare...more

This book is a very clean read that anyone who likes contemporary would enjoy. I liked that all the characters had different beliefs. I appreciated that Tanya was a Christian and not afraid to let that be known. She did get on my nerves a little. I think it was because she came off as a little prissy. The name of her dog annoyed me to no end. I loved Anton & Johnno! They cracked my up. They all seemed to grow and develop quite well through out the story. I could see this movie on th...more

This book is a shiny happy novel and definitely not what I was expecting. It was really a light Christian romance and totally sweet. Though you may not be able to relate well to very Christian Tanya and her two surfer friends Anton and Johnno, you will love them.

Tanya's Christian beliefs are a little bit overwhelming at times. She's 26, a virgin and when Sebastian gets romantic with her, she slaps him and then realizes she's in love with another guy. Uh erm. It doesn't ring true to me, but reall...more

I didn’t know what to think of this book at first as it is not my usual genre, but I still wanted to give it a shot. I will have to admit though it was the cover that got to me. I knew I was going to read about a beach location and some surfers and from there only the story would lead me towards its adventure.

You know the saying be careful what you wish for. This is definitely the moral to this book. There are four main characters in this book. First there are the two best friends Johnno and Ant...more

Three and a half stars

If you are a teenager who is feeling lazy and wants to fill in a quiet weekend with a not too heavy read, Phillip Overton’s light novel Last Wish of Summer might be just what you are looking for.

The story is set on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and the fun begins when Anton and Johnno find a bottle washed up on the shore. The message inside begins to turn their world upside down when all their wishes start to come true.

Their lives become more complica...more

Last Wish of Summer is a cute and fun story, it just wasn't for me. The idea of finding a bottle with a letter inside that grants you wishes sounded like it could be very interesting. However, I really didn't connect with any of the characters and the story seemed a little bland to me.

Last Wish of Summer is not the most enjoyable book I have read, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a quick & easy read, you might enjoy this book.

Last Wish of Summer was a great coming of age book. While I'm not very religious, I found the religious themes in the book to be light and not too over powering. The characters were wonderful, while there was suffering of loss there was also humorous fun moments. Last Wish of Summer was a wonderful book about growth, told a great message, and was a fun read.

Mr. Overton pens his characters strong in his book, "Last Wish of Summer". It is a light Christian romance and a fun, easy read that I wasn't expecting. Recommended for those who like a fun and easy spiritual read.
