This book was written by the husband of a friend of mine, so I'm very relieved that I loved it. It's a small book that evokes a world that has disappeared - Hawaii in the 50's before it was a state and had only begun to be developed as a tourist mecca. Boat is a native Hawaiian who befriends Mike Baughman, whose family has just relocated to Honolulu. It's the story of their relationship through the years as Mike comes of age and marries. I found the story entrancing and very touching.
