Obviously helpful if you're trying to learn Ugaritic, but its a horribly laid out book. It may be the best textbook for learning Ugaritic out there, but it is still just awful to try to read and work through. Everything is just sort of thrown out there with no chapter breaks that make learning and retention easier. Its a real big swing and a miss by Huehnergard, and if this is the best there is for learning Ugaritic, then goodness gracious has academia failed people yet again.

My scant contributions to this project are the tree of ancient languages found on page two and a little proofing here and there, but it left me inordinately proud, especially when I read things like "Huehnergard’s introduction is now the best introductory volume for learning Ugaritic" (JESOT 3.1).

This book is exactly the kind of thing that I want to see going forward in scholarship (continued attention to ancient languages and historical linguistics) and whenever I get to be a part of facilitati

Huehnergard's book is an excellent introduction to Ugaritic. While there are minor weaknesses, like not giving the 3fs forms of anything in the paradigm charts, this is the best intro to Ugaritic.
