Besides having the advantage of being recently published--and therefore able to account for the significant shifts in the study of religion in the last 15 years--Furseth and Repstad's work includes a very helpful chapter on the compatibility of sociology and theology/religious faith. I'm not sure it displaces McGuire's textbook as the standard in the field (2002), but one could certainly do worse.
