My Nerdy Valentine (Nerds #7)
by
Vicki Lewis Thompson (Goodreads Author)
Aspiring psychologist Amanda Rykowsky's schedule is certifiable. Between study, bartending, and an internship with a sex therapist whose techniques would make a Playboy bunny blush, there's zero time for romance. Still, Amanda is flattered to receive an anonymous Valentine…until the messages take a sinister turn.
Stockbroker William Sloan swears he's not the one sendin...more

It was fun and one scene really got me laughing. Amanda and William were perfect for each other because Amanda needed a man who could be with her, but know when not to so that she could focus on her acedemic goal. Though a few times I wanted to be her neighbor's conscious and whisper in her ear to go smack Amanda whenever she used her excuse about not having time for anything.

This was not my favorite of the series, and I was a little sad to see Nerds end on this book. It certainly wasn't horrible, but there were other books that were much better.
Amanda Rykowski is barely making it through her schedule, between going to grad school, interning with a sex therapist, bartending at Geekland, and somehow finding time to study inbetween all that. So when she meets William Sloan, it is definitely a case of "right guy, wrong time," and she has to turn hi...more

Neither Amanda or William struck me as particularly nerdy. Amanda was rather single-minded about her schooling and career, and Will wears glasses, a hat with ear flaps, and has a good memory for trivia. In spite of this, I found it very hard to be disappointed with the book. Will makes for the sort of romantic hero I enjoy reading about: intelligent, confident without being arrogant, and a great sense of humour. He's the type of guy who's willing to put his desires aside in order to do what's be...more

This is fluffy, fun goodness. An ideal book for reading on a summer day on the beach, around the pool or in a hammock.
It's not literary rocket science, it's just good, syrupy, romantic fun.
Only complaint, I really didn't like that the villain was revieled. This is a personal preference and in no way hurts the actual reading of the book. It's just one of the few things in life I like to be surprised by. *shrugs*

I think that this is probably my favorite of all the Nerd books that I've read by this author. The plot was fast paced, the suspense was intense, and the romance was heated. I think the most fun part of the book in my opinion was that it was set in my hometown of Chicago. So I had a really fun time imaging the charecters in a setting that I'm very familiar with.
I really enjoyed reading this nerd love book, but I'm somewhat disappointed by the incorrect cigarette reference. Cigarettes don't freeze! You need water content to produce ice and cigarettes are a dry product. I should know - I store mine in the freezer for the specific purpose of keeping them fresher (like coffee).
This is the first book I have read by this author. When I read the title I really had to give it a try, since I"m married to a nerd. And this was an enjoyable read. I laughed out loud numerous times, especially at the outrageous behavior of the sex therapist Amanda worked for. The love story was simple and sweet.
Good stuff
- Quirky relatable characters
- Funny, fast-pace plot
- Nice interactions
- Lovely scenes
- Great writing
Bad stuff
- A little bit boring at times
- The overall plot about the secret valentine isn't really good
- The ending scene with the secret valentine wasn't good

I liked so many aspects of this story – good plot, lots of action, plenty of humor, fun secondary characters and a male who goes after his female. Amanda is student intern for sex therapist when she bumps into stockbroker William whose office is in the same building.
Amanda is a busy psychology student, moonlighting as a bartender and interning with brash sex therapist Gloria. She doesn't have time for dating, not even with cute nerdy William, a stockbroker who works down the hall. But when Amanda starts getting creepy valentines, Will offers to pose as her boyfriend to help her get to the bottom of the mystery.

A decent read but I never felt like the characters were in danger. The main couple did seem to be a good fit together but I didn't really get any chemistry between them. Even though you find out who the stalker is early on, the ending will still surprise you.
Amanda Rykowsky, psychology student, bartender, and intern to a sex therapist, meets nerdy stockbroker William Sloan when the bag of sex toys she has picked up for the therapist breaks and scatters embarrassing items all over the stairs. With no time for dating, Amanda has sworn off relationships. When she starts receiving progressively more alarming valentines from an unknown admirer, Will worries that a dangerous stalker is the culprit. He offers to pretend to be Amanda’s boyfriend, but they c...more
I am not going to finish this book. I thought I might give it another try down the road but the more I think about it I don't have a whole lot of time to waste. I cringe too much when I read it. I'm not a prude but it's way too much out there with the sex stuff, the sex therapist would never be allowed to keep her business if that was really what was going on in her office, the condescending "voice" of the main character made me feel bad. I am not a huge fan of those super sexy rom...more
Super sexy and funny with a nerd twist. I was laughing so hard I was crying. I love all her books, she really know's how to write for someones pleasure.

Well, there were entirely TOO FEW Valentine's subject books posted on today's list!! So upping the ante a bit...'MY Funny Valentine'
If you read any of the “Nerd” books it is like the others, a cute, light read.
Vicki Lewis Thompson keeps crankin' out the nerd romances like it's going out of style. This tome features the token nerd in the form of stockbroker William and the adorable, vulnerable lady in the form of Amanda, who is interning at the strangest, most improbable sex therapist office ever. But I don't expect factual accuracy from Thompson, or I wouldn't have made it through any of her books. Needless to say, one of the therapist's deranged patients takes a distasteful liking to Amanda, and Will...more

My Nerdy Valentine (The Nerd Series) by Vicki Lewis Thompson (2007)
2.5 stars
I skipped to #7 because several friends had particularly liked this one. It was better than #1, but not nearly as good as #2. I found quite a lot of it merely skim-worthy; the supporting characters mostly unbelievable, uninteresting, and far too cliched; and I really hated the ending. Well, less the ending than the lead-up to it.
It is NOT ok for one person in a relationship to unilaterally make decisions for the other, even if it is "for their own good"...more

Cute story, the normalcy if the main characters is refreshing.
Typical nerd series. Less erotic scenes, but more suggestive stuff. I just love how they portray the nerds to being sensitive, but still alittle clueless when it comes to women! :-)
Yes, this is a romance novel and you'll find I happen to read a lot of them. Vicki Lewis Thompson is one of my favorite authors. She has started "The Nerd Series" and each book had a nerdy main character. The story line is great, the plots are hysterical, and the characters have a quirk to them that you can't help but love. In this book i have to say that "Gloria" the main character's boss/sex therapist is too funny for words. She kinda reminds me of Barbara S.'s character in...more
Loved it.great sub character
story: good
fact checking: abysmal
i enjoyed the plot and the characters but as a smoker, the recurring [incorrect:] details about the results of freezing cigarettes was a glaring mark that threatened my enjoyment of the book. freezing cigarettes is a common way of storing them to preserve freshness. in fact, i just took a pack out of my freezer and lit one to smoke right now. which made me think of this book even three days after reading it

Cute read...some nice steamy scenes. The suspense of the stalker was an interesting plot, and at times when the author switched to his POV, I was really creeped out. The writer did a great job in getting me to loathe him! It did all end a little too easily though.
And there were parts that were just way too out there....triple and quadruple orgasms...every time they had sex...come on now..... :)

Genre: Modern Romance
Despite being a romance novel set in the present day, there is not much erotica in this book. However, it is laugh-out-loud funny! I enjoyed it a great deal, although there was quite a bit of willful suspension of disbelief required (anyone with a PhD, will not need pointers in how to dress/act like a nerd. It comes with the terratory in my experience. :-))

lots of vibrators and sex in the first few pages. was a bit freaked out. so not expecting that!
once i got past all that, it was a really cute book.

This was a fun and fast read, witty and steamy, perfect for rainy day or if you looking for a humor filled read that doesn't need a lot of thinking. It did have an extra bonus for me since my name is Amanda but then it had its negative too since my brother's name is William, LOL !!! But Don't let that stop you its truly a cute fun read.
