When I found Farfetch(second in a trilogy) in a bookbox, I was immediately drawn to get the other books so that I could read the entire story. I've enjoyed Lichtenberg for many years, but only knew her through her Sime-Gen stories. Fortunately, I was able to located copies of Dushau and Outreach through Paperback Swap so that I could read straight through.

Dushau is a science fiction novel first published in 1985. I hope I don't sound too arrogant, but I suspect you can date this book to that decade (yes, by the cover, too :D)

It's a very nice read, but the heroine does reminds me of previous "role models" when women weren't that strong. Do not take me wrong, though, its's also refreshing to read a story in which a man and a woman are partners and are not bound by lust at first sight. The Dushau live practically forever. The Allegiancy picks them as it's scapegoat when civilization begins to crumble. Human Krinata is caught between her admiration and love of the Dushau and her loyalty to her Emperor. Dushau starts off strong, with lots of interesting aliens and tense situations.
