Ten red apples hanging on a tree. Yippee, fiddle-dee-fee! But they are not there for long. Horse, cow, donkey, pig, hen, and the other farm animals each eat one. "Save one for me," calls the farmer. But what about the farmer's wife?

Count on Pat Hutchins to solve the problem happily. And count the red apples before they are all gone!

Ten Red Apples, is a picturebook that can be read to and enjoyed by the nursery age group. It is about a farmer and his wife that have an apple tree. All of the farm animals continue to eat his apples which leaves none for his wife to make an apple pie, but then they find another one and all is well. It is a very cute, rhyming story that young children would enjoy hearing. I had completed a flannelboard story project using this book and it worked out very well. I was able to make all of the anim...more

Ten Red Apples was a countdown book involving farmers and their animals. The illustrations were bland and simple which works very well for small children. The same illustration was on the left side of every page with one less apple from the tree which would be something fun for kids to follow along with. Reading through the book, you can start to feel the rhythm and beat of the text like your reading a song. If you are musically gifted, putting this into a song could be a more enjoyable way for...more

The farmer is worried that if animals keep eating the apples off of his apple tree, there won't be any left for him.

I would consider this book to be realistic fiction. It would be great for Kindergarten students that are just learning to count. It would be a book that woould engage the entire class and make it easy to have participation from students. The picture is clear and easy to point out that there is one apple missing each time.

What a wonderful toddler storytime pick. Even with a full crowd of hyper kids to entertain, this book was a hit. Each new page shows a new tree of apples to count (starting at 10 and working down to 1), and a new animal that eats an apple (hello, animal sounds!). Plus the the farmer says the same thing every time so the kids can say it with you by the end.

This book is a great math book for preschooler and kindergarten. Students will love this book becuase it has coloful illustrations. Great counting book that has numbers and animals. Your students will be counting and making animal noises in no time!

This fantastic picture book is great for little ones. All the characters and animal look toy like. The rhyme is repetitive, for little ones to read along and count along with the farmer. Recommended for preschoolers and toddlers.

This book is perfect for pre-schoolers and toddlers. Lots of repetition and funny words, in addition to both animal sounds and numbers. It's a favorite at our house that I was as sad to have to return to the library as my son was.

Puppets and repetition are combined in this counting book. Not that entertaining, really. Our girls got bored with it by number seven. Okay for beginning readers.

Great book when doing a unit on Johnny Appleseed and Apples! Great rhyme that students quickly pick up and love to chant. Goes great with a lesson on subtraction.

2009-The Pre-K kids enjoyed counting the apples and seeing all the animals...but I could not seem to say fiddle-dee-fee in the right order EVER!

This is a great read-aloud for kids 12-24 months, especially. There's a good repetitive refrain, there's some counting involved, as well as some animal identification. I do make a couple of changes to the text when I read it aloud, though; instead of having the goose say "Hiss, hiss" I usually change it to "Honk, honk," since the hissing strikes me as confusing for young kids. I also stop the book two or three pages early, with the page that says "'Hurray,' said the Farmer, 'you saved some for m...more

Very boring, and predictable. Counting can be of use, but by a few numbers in, I was bored. Pictures are nothing special.

A good book to use for a math lesson. Children can do a graphic activity on which kinds of apples they like best.
Melanie
A beautifully visual counting book for young kids. Great for learning how to count as well as animals sounds.

This is a counting book. Very repetative. More for younger children learning to count to ten.
Destinee Sutton
A counting book where the phrase "fiddle-dee-fee" is used a lot. Also has a lot of animal noises.

Nice little counting book. Works great as a sing-aloud instead of a read-aloud.
Jacqueline

Kinley would give it 5 stars, but she isn't voting. It's a good little counting book with animal sounds to keep it lively.
