A haunting story of injustice done in the name of Revolutionary fervor, and its modern consequences.
Inspector Wang is on vacation to his home village with his new wife, to visit his no-account brother and renew his ties to the past, when the local Party Secretary is murdered. Wang tries to stay out of it, then becomes interested when certain actions from the past are uncovered.
Did Secretary Yu have anything to do with these past injustices, and if so, exactly what was his part?

Recommends it for: everyone who likes reading about China
Christopher West writes, using a mystery format, about current Beijing and his books are wonderful in giving a flavor of so much about the city. The others are Death of a Blue Lantern and Death of a Red Mandarin. If you like reading about China, you will like these books

Enjoyed it, found it interesting learning a little bit about China (old and modern)

I would read another Inspector Wang novel, but wouldn't go out of my way to track one down.
