Unfortunately, I couldn't get through this book. I love Elizabeth Montgomery, and love Bewitched even more, but besides mentioning some TV movies of hers I'd like to find, this book was written in a very awkward manner.

The author continually jumps all over the place; this is not your typical memoir. His introduction is long and lengthy, and I'm not sure what differentiates it from the rest of the book, which is written the same way. The timeline jumps all over the place, and so many people and t...more

Up to now there hasn't been a biography about the witch with a twitch that even came close to being worthy of her memory. And it's suitable that Herbie J. Pilato is the one to give us a biography about Elizabeth Montgomery, as he was one of a handful of people to be able to interview her in her post-Bewitched years. Pilato had originally interviewed her for his awesome "The Bewitched Book" and he had lots of material left over which he was able to put to good use here along with interviews with...more

I loved Elizabeth Montgomery but this epic-length biography of her is maddening. First, would it have killed the author (or his editor) to put her story in a chronological order? The writing style is best described as "A.D.D."--Pilato is constantly being distracted by comparisons that lead him to go off on tangents. For instance, A CASE OF RAPE is compared to Farrah Fawcett's THE BURNING BED, but instead of making that comparison, we get a full-paragraph description of the plot of THE BURNING BE...more

I knew I probably wouldn't read the whole thing when I got this book from the library and opened it to find that the whole book had tiny font. I skipped the introduction/prologue/whatever and was disappointed to find so much excruciating minutiae-the endless discussion of her real date of birth; the Elizabeths who were NOT her mother; the -gasp! No!!- foreshadowing of things to come, such as the phrase "once upon a time", etc., etc., had me flipping through pages to find something of substance....more

Interesting subject matter but was in need of an objective non-fan editor.

I'm only 1/4 of the way through the biography, so I will edit my review if my take on Twitch upon a Star changes. At the moment, I don't love it, but I do like it.

This is not a chronological biography. I think it is best described as being topical, as it skips around in time and touches on different subjects. For example, one chapter deal with Elizabeth's relationship with different pets. Yet it digresses from this topic. The fact that it skips around in time so much makes it difficult sit back...more

Have you ever wondered what a star crazed fan would talk about if you were locked in a room with them for 5 hours? This book is just what you would get if you were locked in a room with that star crazed fan.

Herbie babbles endlessly on totally useless, pointless facts. There is a considerable amount of time spent going back and forth, back and forth. I feel a little time and editing would have made for a great biography, but unfortunately there was a little too much star struck fan and not enoug...more

I really wanted to like this book but didn't. It bounced around in time period and some things are repeated over and over...yes her and her father had differing opinion on politics. She was a very private person so most of the book was from third hand accounts so we really never got to know what Elizabeth was like. I read Herbie's Bewitched books and I didn't find anything new here.

Written by a self-confessed fan who has written two other books on the Bewitched series, Twitch Upon a Star offers a look at the life of Elizabeth Montgomery.

Written from a series of interviews with Elizabeth herself, her friends, co-stars and family.

The rating is not a reflection on the subject but the writer's style. Elizabeth Montgomery comes across as a decent, down to earth, caring, professional woman who gave freely of her time and money for worthy causes. The author obviously venerates her but his style is so mired in overly worded prose and redundant statements that the focus is often lost. He reiterates certain facts to the point that it becomes annoying, one small example: Montgomery's grandmother was named Rebecca she named her da...more

Written by a devoted fan of Elizabeth Montgomery, Pilato is almost too excitable. The style is very ADDH with Pilato veering off into tangents. On the plus side you can see how devoted he is to Elizabeth Montgomery.

I enjoyed learning more about Elizabeth Montgomery, but the author is not exactly the greatest writer. There were lots of sentences that had missing words.

For a Biography this book was boring. I understand it wasn't written by Elizabeth herself, but I would have liked it to be a little more personal. I did enjoy the pictures though!

hard to get thru

The author repeated himself multiple times throughout the book which was very tiring. There's a huge difference between an objective biographer and a fan with a crush on the subject. This author fell into the latter category instead of the former.

Enjoyed reading more about the life of this Bewitched star. She will always remain one of my favorite TV stars. This lady was very talented. Not many actors are able to successfully handle both comedy and drama and be successful in both. If cancer had not taken her so soon, I believe this lady would still be working in films. Not only was she a wonderful actress, she led a very intersting life behind the camera. Good biography on a fascinating lady.

Truthfully, as much as I eagerly anticipated this biography, I felt let down by the author because the research was not well done, relying a lot on extensive quotes from magazine articles. This is certainly not a good biography. That said, there has been so little written about Elizabeth Montgomery that any information at all is valuable. I just wish this was better.

Kind of a re-hash of old interviews mostly. Nothing really riveting, no startling revelations... decent read though if one is a major "Bewitched" fan.
