This well-researched biography of the life and controversial death of Robert LeRoy Parker, a.k.a. Butch Cassidy, is a journey across the late-nineteenth-century American West as we follow Cassidy s exploits in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah, where he made his name as a surprisingly affable outlaw. More important, this book answers the question: Did Butch Cassidy, noted outlaw ...more

This is an excellent summation of an interesting life that everyone thinks they know all about. Mr. Jameson gives us a new look at the life and times of Butch Cassidy and tries to tear down some of the fallacies that have been given to us through books, magazine articles, and movies. One may have to accept the idea that maybe Cassidy did commit all of the crimes he is believed to have committed and that maybe, just maybe, he was not killed by the Bolivian army.

Jameson gives a very good overview

I cannot rate this book highly, because I simply don't trust the author. He says the research of others is flawed and that some of them come to false conclusions on certain events or information about Butch Cassidy. That's all well and good, but without citations or footnotes, I don't buy that this author's conclusions are any better. Decided not to read this after all.

Butch Cassidy: Beyond the grave by W.C. Jameson was a interesting perspective on the American outlaw, Butch Cassidy. Published October 3rd, 2012, the biography of Butch Cassidy was told, and falls in the history and biography category of books.
This story was told from W.C Jameson looking back at the 19th century telling the story of Butch Cassidy's life and going through the question if Butch Cassidy survived the shootout in South America or not? And if he went back in the United States with a n

Extra star, because I was truly transported . . .
which is what a book should do.

I DID see the movie--back in the day, but the actors were so cute I don't remember details about the movie, or the characters portrayed except the final shootout . . . which this author says may not have even happened. Artistic license. This was a nice introduction to Butch Cassidy, about as nice a story to read as it gets.

We like to memorialize our "bad guys," and we've passed many famous tombs along our travels t

Very interesting, well researched book. Since most of my prior knowledge about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid came from the 1969 Newman/Redford movie, it was a good contrast to be informed as to what was really true, not true or merely speculation with no hard facts. Even between many Cassidy researchers there are differences of opinion as to the events for which there is some evidence, but no hard proof. For example, the heartbreaking shootout with the Bolivian army that takes place at the ...more

If you follow my blog, you know I read some quirky books now and then. My interests are so eclectic that you just never know what will appeal to me. This one I can't really explain very easily though. I was a huge fan of Paul Newman and Robert Redford, yet I've never seen the movie where they starred as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Still, I am interested in outlaws of the Old West and wanted to know more about their real story.

The author of this little book is one of many people who have

A quick review of “Butch Cassidy: Beyond the Grave”
His use of Larry Pointer’s “In Search of Butch Cassidy” and “The Bandit Invincible” manuscript have been recently disavowed by Mr. Pointer which makes that part of Mr. Jameson’s book out of date. See:
“Butch Cassidy: Beyond the Grave” by W.C. Jameson is an interesting attempt to fact check many of the stories that abound about Robert Leroy Parker aka Butch Cassidy. To his credit the author points out we

Jameson bases a lot of this book off of Larry Pointer's research that William Phillips was Butch Cassidy. The problem is that Mr. Pointer has since come out to claim he fell for a fraud posing as Cassidy. William Phillips wasn't Cassidy and this fact had to be known by Jameson when he wrote this book. Other than the last two chapters it was enjoyable read but he seemed to borrow from other researchers as he offers little in the way of original research. Quite frankly if it weren't for Larry Poin ...more
Well researched biography of Butch Cassidy. W.C. Jameson covers what is well known and excepted facts about Cassidy's life as well as theories surrounding Cassidy's death in Bolivia in 1908. A great read.
