This is a really tough story to review without giving spoilers. However, I think a large part of the enjoyment in reading this is in figuring out what is really happening, so I'm going to do my best not to give too much away. It might end up being a shorter than usual review, however!

“The future is a convenient place for dreams.” - Anatole France
If ever there was a book I’ve wanted a sequel to, it’s Lost in My Waking Dream, the historical/futuristic/sci-fi/time travelling story of a man, George Fitzpatrick, who fought in and survived World War I, though he didn’t manage to come away from it entirely unscathed. George suffers from post traumatic stress episodes that he has managed to survive only because of the voice he hears inside of him, the voice of a man, Noah Baxter, wh...more

As my first foray into Charlie Cochet's fiction, I don't think I could have chosen better (though, to be fair, I reserve the right to change my opinion once I read more!). I loved the way this story handled the language. It set the time period and the mood beautifully. I've read a fair amount of historical fiction, and I most enjoy it when the author attempts to keep the style true to the time they've chosen without sacrificing any significant understanding in the reader. Cochet handled that ver...more
This was very different from the rest of the author's current releases as far as tone and subject matter. I felt it could have benefited from being a bit longer, especially from Noah's end, but it was still well written and I enjoyed it. I felt for George's character and wanted to know more about him.
I really really liked this - I was nearly in tears at the end. It's completely unexpected. George's existence is just heartbreaking and the truth about Noah was nothing I would have imagined. The writing is beautiful, especially the expression of George's despair. Honestly, so far I've been completely impressed with everything I've read by this author. I've two more in queue that I can't wait to get to.

m/m Romance author by day, artist by night, Charlie Cochet is quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse. From Historical to Fantasy, Contemporary to Science Fiction, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From hardboiled detectives and society gentleman, to angels and elves, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in, and plenty of romance,...more
