The only excitement this book has is a interesting cover, other than that it's boring as fuck.

This book was certainly an eye opener. It really made me wonder what is really in store for us when we pass on. I cannot wait to read the follow up book in 2013. I would really like to know how the author (Michele Scott) researched the information for this book and where some of the research was obtained from. (or is it just her own perspective) I would like to read a bit more on her (this) theory of the afterlife. This book is not scary at all, actually some parts made me laugh out loud, it jus...more

I got this book as a Kindle Freebie. Wow! Am I glad that I downloaded it. I was hooked from sentence one and read the book in a single sitting.

Evie Preston, the protagonist, is a feisty, small town Texas girl who moves to LA with dreams of making it big as a singer. Her search for a job that will pay the rent puts her in the path of a former child star who now owns a dive bar, his regular customers, and a single name pop-star.

Evie lucks into a house-sitting gig at a house that is regularly visi...more

This book was a whole lot of WHOA. Another author wrote about it so I decided to give it a try.

First- it was so many genres rolled into one. Murder mystery, historical fiction, romance, paranormal. And it had ever but of crazy to go with it. But good crazy.

Synopsis- A late twenties girl leaves behind her small town life in Texas to follow her dreams in Hollywood. Where her road starts out rough she ends up falling into multiple jobs and lives that are intertwined with secrets, fame and a past...more

WARNING....I did not finish this book. I tried, and I just couldn't....

**sigh**

I feel like I've started so many books recently, and all of them have been so disappointing. This one was just like the last several books I've read. However, I did make it through more then halfway before throwing in the towel, so I felt like I could rate it appropriately.

Paranormal books generally discuss topics that are unbelievable. Vampires. Werewolves. Faeries. Ghosts. All topics that I've read and loved. Some p...more

The Grey Tier (A Dead Celeb Mystery). Michele Scott. April 3, 2012. D’Vine Press. 274 pages. Kindle edition.

**3.75 Stars** An entertaining paranormal mystery that reminds me of a Meg Cabot novel.

The Grey Tier is a quirky, fun paranormal(ghost) read with a murder mystery used as the backdrop for the story. The heroine, Evie, is very likeable and down to earth. She has a very funny, but very spoiled sidekick/employer/friend in Simone. There are a number of "love interests" throughout the novel, with one who seems to have won Evie's heart, but is he really the right one for her? And, is he the one who tr...more

Really liked this book. The characters are great. Especially liked Mumbles for some reason, man of few words lol. Evie is well liked heroine, she has her freak outs but is still well grounded, polite but no pushover, and kicks ass when the situation called for. The murder mystery was well done, had my suspicions halfway thought but couldn't be too sure till the end and then ended up being wrong, was on the right track though! Nice twist at then end. Romance was alright, that's why this...more

Review: House/Well: I gave it a chance, and I am glad I did.

Michele Scott was nice enough to give us a signed copy of “The Grey Tier” at the LA Author Event this April. I immediately started reading this book. The synopsis described something that I was not used to reading, murder/mystery. In fact, it sounded cheesy, however I was most pleasantly surprised. I think the craziness of the plot is acknowledged by the author and has the main character take advantage of this. Makes you chuckle to your...more

Why, oh why couldn't I have waited to read this book!! That's one heck of a cliff hanger and dammit! I need the sequel now.

So, I enjoyed this. It's different from what I expected. The whole Lucas thing was . . . Odd, but I enjoyed that and though Evie's obsession with her "investigation" got very OTT for me, she got there in the end and I feel the author was setting us up for something big - apparently we won't find out what until at least the sequel though.

There's a lot happening in this book...more

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book with the expectation that I would provide an honest review.

A fun genre-bending read!

Part small-town girl makes good, part paranormal romance, part murder mystery, part what-if you could hang out with dead celebrities wish-fulfillment.

Michele Scott introduces big ideas and a large background through a small self-contained (and self-consistent) story.

With a handful of believable, likable characters, a steady pace, humor, suspense, hot romanc...more

I really liked this book. Definitely different from other books that the main character is a medium. Evie is not trying to be a martyr she's just trying to live her life for herself for once in her life. Her character is definitely a good girl with newly developed bad girl tendencies at least in my opinion . One of the things I didn't like was her not using her gift of psychometry more and supposedly this couple with her healing energies she gives back to the person is what's supposed to bring h...more

I received a copy of this book from Goodreads Firstreads

If you are an avid reader of the paranormal genre, you soon learn that most paranormal species have very similar backgrounds in every book. Vampires drink blood, silver hurts werewolves, and ghosts have unfinished business. It’s the details each author adds that separate each story. Do vampires sparkle; does the full moon make a werewolf sex crazed; how does this spirit world work? The Grey Tier focuses on spirits, and the typical explanati...more

I received this book through the First Reads program!

Just about everything in this book surprised me. I was initially quite put off by the cover art, as well as it's designation as a "Dead Celeb Mystery". They say not to judge a book by its cover, though, so I dove in and ended up finishing it in two days. Sometimes books are like that.

This book... well, it's very odd. Surprisingly odd. I would like to say shockingly odd but after learning that a book that stars a "screwnicorn" exists I'm not ce...more

Reviewed as a first reads giveaway (my first!) and I'd actually give this book 3.5 stars, but Goodreads missed out on the new DWTS paddles.

First off, who wouldn't like a book that features the ghost of Bob Marley? Excellent side characters pepper this story throughout, helping to round out the book and further the plot. The main character, Evie Preston, is likable and thoughtful, perhaps a bit too goody-two shoes at times, but contrasts nicely to several more jaded characters. Although she is t...more

This book was recommended to me by a friend, and at first I didn't know what to think of the relationships between Evie, her family, and her new friends in California. I immediately fell in love with the idea of Evie and Lucas and while I'm glad that some of the issues presented within this book were resolved by the end, I'm absolutely dying to read the next book to find out happens with the more pressing (and what I felt were far more interesting) issues in Evie's life. Well done, Ms. Scott!

I love ghost stories, but I simply could not get into this book. The plot was contrived, and Evie's interactions with dead celebrities such as Janis Joplin were too unbelievable, even if you suspended your beliefs about ghosts in general, which readers of ghost stories willingly do. I stopped reading this book in the middle. It is possible that once Evie began investigating the murder, the plot may have become more interesting. I'll never know.

Pretty good. 3.5 stars. The premise of the story is really interesting but there was just too much stuff happening for me to really keep up. All these different tiers, portals, angels, dead people etc. and I tuned out for small parts of the book. However, it had real promise and I'm really excited for the next book. I have a really good idea who her guardian angel is and I'm excited to see if I'm right :)

WOW. Yep, just wow.
This was my first Michele Scott book and I was not disappointed! I anxiously wait for the continuation of this series!
I loved the romance, mystery, paranormal, and just about anything else that could be thrown in, was! Lucas...oh boy Lucas. *sigh* Loved Bob and Janice too! I love when authors bring in a quirky mix with dead celebrities!
More Dead Celebs please!

Really liked this book and am eagerly awaiting book 2: The Black Portal. This book had a several genres rolled into it which I really enjoyed...Mystery, Suspense, Romance, and Paranormal. The main character Evie was strong and determined which I liked. Lucas, well I mean he's a hot and obviously concerned in protecting Evie. I highly recommend this book because it was so entertaining and the twist and turns left me completely shocked.

I loved this book and would have given it at least Four stars. The reason I didn't is because I read it So long ago and I can't find the author's announcement regarding a sequel. I am not sure I will ever start a book again without knowing that there is a date for the author's next book. I am not sure that this author ever had any plans to release a second book.

This book crossed several genres. It had paranormal, romance, mystery, rock star love interest, and a dead Bob Marley. All the characters had something to love, and you even had to solve a mystery while reading it. I am looking forward to reading the next one and continuing the story of Evie and Luke, while following the antics of a rising pop star, and long dead idols.

I liked this book, but I tend to like quirky characters and a little bit of strangeness in my stories.
I don't like to say too much about the stories for fear of unwittingly giving something away. I like my mysteries with either weirdness or humor, or both. Looking forward to more titles in this series.

not the best book ive ever read. there were definatly some good points but i had to force myself to finish. this is the first thing by this author that i ever read so i cant base it off of any of their other materials. i will give this author another chance but for me this book was not good

I LOVED this book. I loved the murder mystery surrounding it, the paranormal piece, the romance...all of it. I was actually upset when I got to the end and realized the book had a sequel coming and it wasn't ready yet! I can't wait to get that!!

I'm having a problem saving the stars--5 stars for this one!!

My kind of book! Spunky heroine, zany friends, mystery, and danger. With a little romance thrown in for good measure. Great editing. Very few mistakes. I'll be on the lookout for more of Evie's adventures. I received a free copy of this fun mystery for review and I'm glad I did.

I won this book as a giveaway on Goodreads. It's probably not my typical read, but I enjoyed it. It's what I would call a "beach read". Nothing really serious, but a good light-hearted read. There were lots of typographical errors in my copy, but I'm assuming that is why it was a giveaway. :)
I would recommend it to someone who likes a light murder mystery with a little bit of paranormal and humor thrown in.
Nicole
What did I just read? This book was improbably and not terribly interesting, and I'm upset with myself that I wasted this month's free Kindle book on this. Ugh.
Vicky
Wow! I struggled to get to page 50 until I finally gave up and closed the book. Needless to say I do not plan on finishing it...
Amy
This story had some very interesting characters. I don't normally read about ghost, so this was unexpected for me.
Good read.

Michele grew up thirty minutes east of San Diego in an area called Jamul. It was out there in the country that her parents bought Michele’s first horse and she learned how to ride at five. At nine years old she knew she loved to write and one day wrote a short story that she showed to her dad. She’d written it on one of his legal pads. After he read it, he looked at her and said, “You are a writer...more
