This is a really cute story about a platypus who gains instant fame for being a ferociously fast swimmer. Paddy doesn't really welcome the fame though and would much rather stay home and swim in his "own" swimming spots over the hustle and bustle of the big swim competitions forced on him by Sir Hugh.

My kids and I enjoyed learning about the platypus which we didn't know anything about or how they lived and the book streamlines with our little girls reading level because it is a chapter book and...more

This is a great starter Chapter Book for your children to read, or for you to share together. The chapters are short, younger children can understand them, and this story is just the cutest thing!
This is about a platypus called Paddy. He lives on an island just off of Australia called Tasmania. He can swim so fast! He is the fastest there is on Tasmania!
I had to laugh when Sir Hugh Tidybrooke comes to find Paddy Platypus because he is pictured as a man wearing many hats! Well, he has many titl...more

I read this book before I read it to my children, and at first, I thought, "AAHH! What a bunch of big words for them to try and understand!!" (well, our almost 9 year old would be fine, I thought). I read it out loud to our 2 year old and 5 year old, and they were to busy checking out the cool pictures, to care what in the world I was saying, lol! But, Genevive, (5), at the end, had lots of questions about the book and Paddy, she listened after all!
This kind of proves my belief that, no matter w...more

Sir Hugh is so impressed that he enters Paddy in a swim race in California. Paddy wins his first and second race. However, Paddy doesn’t like all of the noise and crowds. When he learns the third race is to take place in the ocean, he is thrilled. He is supposed to swim to a small island in thebay. But, Paddy has other plans. This is a great story about being yourself...more

It a really good book for young readers and children. It funny as well. It quite a cutie book and really enjoy it. I really enjoyed this inspiring book. The uniqueness of the animal being presented, along with the moral that it is ok to be good at a specific skill, makes this a great learning book for younger children. It shows that even though you may be uncomfortable with a situation, in the end you are still yourself. This is a longer book, so I would not recommend it right before bedtime as you'll be answering questions for quite awhile :)
