Dr. Heather Manley does an amazing job of relaying very complicated human body functions and vocabulary in a way that is easy to understand in the book Battle With the Bugs. Battle With the Bugs follows Merrin and Pearl into their cousin, Max’s, nasal passage and ear as they discover how the body fights ear infections. The wording is easy for children to comprehend, even when the bigger scientific names are used. The addition of colorful pictures, descriptive wording, and a glossary allows for ...more

As with the first, I had my 8-year-old read this before I did. While she was reading, I overheard the following: "I knew they were in the nose! That’s disgusting!" "Eeewww! Mucus!"
Not surprisingly, she said the jokes were her favorite part.

Following the same format as the first book, Battle of the Bugs is a great book. The story is interesting and exciting, and no less informative. After the narrative, we have a section with more information on the immune system, interesting facts, part on eatin

This is a higher level book for slightly older readers. It has a lot of content about the immune system once Merrin and Pearl are inside Max’s body. I think this would bore younger readers and they wouldn’t get as much out of this book.

This is the perfect thing to accompany a unit on the body or immune system. It could also be used with guidance to teach young ones what happens inside your body when you get sick…and why eating sugar is an important thing not to do when this happens!

This is part of the Battle With The Bugs blog tour by Babs Blog Bonanza http://authorservicesatthebistro.com/

This book is a perfect choice for an older child who is fan of science. In this story the children join in the battle between germ bugs and the human body while trying to help their baby cousin to fight off a cold. You are thrown right into the adventure very quickly with a very colorful display in how the body scientifically fights a cold that not only encourages the young reader to lear

As a teacher, I see it more as a book to use with a lesson in class. I can't see a student going through this book and understanding it on their own.
